Their website advertised a special for multiple nights but their booking system registered another price. We asked them how we get the promo and they replied that the difference will be deducted at check-in. We went ahead and booked through their system at the higher rate. Weeks later, we wanted to add more nights, went back on the site and realised the promo has changed. Luckily, we still had the email to prove the price and they respected the promo.
Adding to the promo, they offer free airport pick-up with minimum stays of 3 nights, which represents good savings.
We had a double private room with shared facilities. It felt a bit dirty because of the carpet and the musty smell but the linen seemed clean enough and the bed was comfortable. TV, fridge and a sink were nice extras to the room.
Shared bathrooms/showers were also decent.
We don't cook on vacation, but I can see how people would complain on the size of the kitchen.
Overall, it was good for what we paid, but without the savings, we would go somewhere else only because we found another place without carpet rooms.

The main thing about this hostel is that it is cheap and the location is good. The room I stayed in was not so great, it was very narrow and not much space to move around in, it didn't help that one of the people staying there was really messy and her stuff was laying all over the room floor. The toilets and showers were in good shape but the kitchen was not good so I didn't use it. All in all its cheap accommodation at $25 a night in the heart of Sydney.

All of the people working there were really nice and helpful when we asked them questions. The door to our room creaked loudly as it slowly closed, but during our 5-night stay, it was fixed without us asking. Security was great. At night there was a 5-number combination to get in the first door, plus a second door that required a key. Computers were slow, and the internet had a small price. The kitchen was very clean, organized, and labeled, but it did get crowded at times during meals. They had a very nice and organized selection of DVD's to borrow for free. I stayed with 2 of my friends for 5 nights on a Spring Break vacation. It was about a 30 minute walk to the Opera House and Bridge, or almost an hour to Darling Harbour. Besides the hill close to the hostel, the walk wasn't too bad though. It saved us money on transportation, gave us exercise, and allowed us to explore the city more. The grocery store, Cole's, was a block away, which was very helpful, as well as a liquor store and the train station on the same street as Zing. Breakfast was just 3 kinds of bread, jam, peanut butter, nutella, rice krispies, corn flakes, milk, and coffee. Not the greatest, but it was fine. There were only two showers, which were sometimes both taken, but they were clean, private, tiled, and there was usually at least one open. There were only two toilets as well, but they were always available, clean, and private. The shuttle from the airport was free, BUT the shuttle back to the airport was $12 a person. Besides that, everyone was friendly and made us feel welcomed!! I would definitely recommend Zing to anyone!

Room Tip: The three of us booked a triple, which was the same price as staying in a room with others. It was p...

This hostel is spartan in its facilities but I guess that's expected given the low rate. It has a very convenient location, we walked from Circular Quay to the hostel in about half an hour on both days of our stay.
They offer a free airport transfer however our transfer never arrived and the hostel's stand was that 'it is the customer's responsibility to ensure that the shuttle arrives'. This struck us as a bit odd especially since the free airport pickup was what made this place quite attractive to us in the first place and the lack of it was disappointing.
Definitely not coming here again...

This hostel is awesome for short and long term. Its great value for a weekly rate. 160 for a four bed dorm is not something you find often in the city. Yes it's in the cross but it's not bad on Victoria st. The staff are excellent and very accomodating. Can't say enough good words bout them. Watch out for Dan though he steals your tim tams!! Very social orientated. I arrived there on my own and made friends for life. I absolutely loved this place. Stayed in a few hostels in sydney that don't compare. Its small but awesome!

I have been staying at Zing for 5 nights and I love it. It's one of the best hostels I've been in.
The kind of people that come here are either working or looking for work, are very friendly and social, mostly people travelling alone, a communal and family atmosphere, no one that is 'clichey'. However just because people are working/looking, it doesn't mean that it's boring here. There is just the right level of socialising (going out one or two nights in the week, and then at the weekends) and also being quiet after 10pm when the outside area is shut.
It's very central in the Kings Cross area which is apparently the 'Soho of Sydney' but I think it's a very good location - not over populated with tourists like the centre.
The hostel rate is also very good - 25$ a night for a dorm.
Only downfalls are there could be a bigger social area. The TV room is good but can get crammed.
They also have free breakfast which surprisingly saves a lot of money and is a nice way of greeting people in the morning!

I would definitely come back and have already decided that I would stay here if/when I come back to work!
