I had a brilliant time at Wake Up! I booked in with some buddies I’d met on the road, and they allowed us to book separately but request to be in the same room.

3 of us slept in a 6 bed dorm, with another few friends dotted around other rooms. Only gripe is that there are 2 accessible plug sockets, and one halfway up the wall for a room of 6. The lockers were large but you do need your own lock or can purchase one from reception.

Side Bar below was brilliant, nightly events on, cheap good drinks and friendly staff. We joined in the Trivia quiz on Tuesday and won over 10 free drinks for our team. We attended the Coogee to Bondi beach walk where we met a bunch of new friends and really enjoyed the well paced sight seeing walk, all free from the hostel.

Location is prime, right next to central station and next to a host of bus stops including the free 555 which takes you down to Circular Quay and the Opera House etc. Its only about a 15 minute walk anyway, and 5 minutes to China Town etc. A few local bars and not far at all to bigger clubs like Ivy etc.

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay, friendly staff, comfy beds, bathrooms were never too busy, good vibe in the common areas and 3 days of wifi for $11, which is good and works in your room – yes it isn't free but where is in Aus?! This was a good deal compared to prices down the east coast! I would strongly recommend to all travelers going to Sydney!

I arrived in Sydney a bit under the weather and ended up requesting a private room instead of the 6-dorm room that I had reserved because I needed sleep and privacy. They had a room free, which was great, but the rate was exorbitant considering there was no private bathroom and I would share the bathroom on the floor. I ended up staying only 2 nights, instead of the 9 I had reserved for a few reasons: cost versus value, bathrooms always seemed to be dirty, no free wifi, and the kitchen was overcrowded and constantly had dirty dishes. The place was just way too big for my liking. Location was good and noise control was good. I guess it just depends on what you can tolerate.

We stayed there for a few nights.
Lots of people in.
Toilets and shower poor level of cleanliness.
No curtains only blinds.
The light still pass through.
The two lifts are always crowded.
All doors can be close only by slamming so you can ear slamming doors again and again. (Ear plugs needed)
Noisy people in corridors.
When you leave the storage area for leaving luggages is small and quick full even you get a place for your luggage, price is one dollar for one hour.
Wifi is not free.
The best of the best is a speaker in each room at morning and evening very loud announcements for bar promotions, tours, food, etc

To resume we didn't like. Go there if you don't mind about everything I wrote above or if you are short in cash and you need such accommodation.

good location but the room I stay is terrible.
People don't go to sleep until 5am.
They talk very loud outside the room and i was woken by them couple times.....you can imagine how I feel.
Reception is Ok but not friendly enough.

One sentence to conclude: lack of respect.

Wake Up! Sydney was a really nice place to stay while in Sydney. It was close to the center of the city and the staff was really friendly and nice. The rooms and bathrooms were nice (I stayed at a 6 mixed dorm) - all in all the quality of the rooms were really good. There's a nice atmosphere walking around the hostel and café (and Sidebar) and after walking around Sydney looking at some of the other hostels, Wake Up! definitely seems like the best one.

Only negative thing is that there's no stairs (there's 7 floors) and only two elevators so sometimes you had to wait a while before you could get up/down. And the internet costs money as well.

Room Tip: I had some friends who stayed at a 10 mixed dorm and that seemed a bit to big. When they moved to an...

I stayed at the Wake Up! hostel in Sydney for three times. The first time in November in 2013 (1 night), the second on the New Year's Eve (4 nights) and the last time in the middle of January (1 night). Wake Up! is a very good hostel, almost like a hotel because of it's size.

The reception and other chilling areas were very big and there was ex. a popular night club in down stairs and a café. I stayed in big dorms and they were all spacious and very nice, and there were big windows, cozy beds and lockers for everyone. The kitchen was well equipped and big enough.
You had to pay for using the computers or wifi, three days for wifi was something like 12 AUD. But the internet was fast and it worked well, so that was good.

The staff was very professional and helpful, and you could get free maps and tips from them. They were also fun to hang out and easy to approach.
The hostel's location was very good. It was right next to the Central Station (ex. if you came straight from the airport like us, it was very easy just to go to the Wake Up! hostel at any hour of the day cause the reception was 24/7 open). Also if you use the Greyhound Australia, the buses in Sydney leave from the Central Station.

It took about 15 min to walk from the hostel to the Darling Harbor and less than 5 min to walk to the China Town and Paddy's Market. And the last but definitely not the least; Domino's pizzeria was about 10 min walk away <3

If you wish to stay at Wake Up! hostel during the New Year's Eve or for example Christmas, you should definitely book your nights well beforehand. The hostel is very popular and it was almost all the time full booked.

There were a few minus things:
- You could use your key card only for your floor, and sometimes they didn't work.
- If you stayed in lower floors (ex. 1), you could hear the night club's music to your room in the night time.
- Don't know why but girls just didn't know how to flush the toilets and during the weekends there were a lot of people partying and going out, so especially in Saturday and Sunday mornings it didn't surprise me if I found someone's vomit in the toilets. -> So the cleaning should definitely have been better during weekends....
- There were many times when the toilet's flush didn't quite work....
- Only a few places to charge your electronics (in a big dorm there was only something like 3 plugs)

But otherwise I had a good stay. So the hostel deserves those 4 stars. :)

Wake Up boasts first class accommodation for everyone. My only criticism will be the first thing I speak of which is the kitchen. Unfortunately a kitchen so small (8 hobs) is nowhere near big enough for the entirety of the hostel to use, especially at meal times. In order to cook food, you need to be in the kitchen at 11 am or 2pm for lunch, and 5pm or 9pm for dinner. Rather unfortunate!

Aside from that, the service from all the staff was top notch, with every person I spoke to willing to go out of their way in order to help you out.
I highly recommend the Wake Up hostel in Sydney, and although it is a little bit pricier than some of the other hostels around, it's definitely worth every penny.
