I stayed at the Wake Up! hostel in Sydney for three times. The first time in November in 2013 (1 night), the second on the New Year's Eve (4 nights) and the last time in the middle of January (1 night). Wake Up! is a very good hostel, almost like a hotel because of it's size.

The reception and other chilling areas were very big and there was ex. a popular night club in down stairs and a café. I stayed in big dorms and they were all spacious and very nice, and there were big windows, cozy beds and lockers for everyone. The kitchen was well equipped and big enough.
You had to pay for using the computers or wifi, three days for wifi was something like 12 AUD. But the internet was fast and it worked well, so that was good.

The staff was very professional and helpful, and you could get free maps and tips from them. They were also fun to hang out and easy to approach.
The hostel's location was very good. It was right next to the Central Station (ex. if you came straight from the airport like us, it was very easy just to go to the Wake Up! hostel at any hour of the day cause the reception was 24/7 open). Also if you use the Greyhound Australia, the buses in Sydney leave from the Central Station.

It took about 15 min to walk from the hostel to the Darling Harbor and less than 5 min to walk to the China Town and Paddy's Market. And the last but definitely not the least; Domino's pizzeria was about 10 min walk away <3

If you wish to stay at Wake Up! hostel during the New Year's Eve or for example Christmas, you should definitely book your nights well beforehand. The hostel is very popular and it was almost all the time full booked.

There were a few minus things:
- You could use your key card only for your floor, and sometimes they didn't work.
- If you stayed in lower floors (ex. 1), you could hear the night club's music to your room in the night time.
- Don't know why but girls just didn't know how to flush the toilets and during the weekends there were a lot of people partying and going out, so especially in Saturday and Sunday mornings it didn't surprise me if I found someone's vomit in the toilets. -> So the cleaning should definitely have been better during weekends....
- There were many times when the toilet's flush didn't quite work....
- Only a few places to charge your electronics (in a big dorm there was only something like 3 plugs)

But otherwise I had a good stay. So the hostel deserves those 4 stars. :)

Wake Up boasts first class accommodation for everyone. My only criticism will be the first thing I speak of which is the kitchen. Unfortunately a kitchen so small (8 hobs) is nowhere near big enough for the entirety of the hostel to use, especially at meal times. In order to cook food, you need to be in the kitchen at 11 am or 2pm for lunch, and 5pm or 9pm for dinner. Rather unfortunate!

Aside from that, the service from all the staff was top notch, with every person I spoke to willing to go out of their way in order to help you out.
I highly recommend the Wake Up hostel in Sydney, and although it is a little bit pricier than some of the other hostels around, it's definitely worth every penny.

I stayed at Wake Up! in Jan 2014 and absolutely loved it, so much so that after a short trip to the Blue Mountains, came back to stay another few days! The staff were super friendly and helpful, the dorm rooms were fun and helped us to make new international friends and the quiz night at Side Bar was so much fun! Great location, we walked everywhere! Kitchen was relatively clean and easily accessible. Overall a fun, safe and conveniently located hostel and I would definitely stay there again!

Hostel is clean and modern with good facilities, and rooms always feel nice and cool when it's really hot outside. Walking tour is good, especially as it's free and you get a free beer at the end... And get to meet loads of people.

Side bar downstairs is also quite good with reasonable drinks prices.

Only a couple of things we found annoying, in a dorm for 6 there are only 3 power sockets, and the kitchen is probably a bit small for the size of the hostel and lacking in cutlery.

Would recommend

My friend and I arrived in Sydney with plans to naively wander up the east coast with a tight timeline, tighter budget and all of this over the Christmas holidays. We ended up with an absolute angel helping us on the travel desk! Charlene was a total saviour. She advised us on what we realistically had time to see, spent well over 2 hours helping us decide where to go and for how long, and then went ahead and pulled some strings with overbooked hostels and tour companies to make it all happen. Somehow we managed to pull off a crazy fun 10 day whirlwind east coast trip and it definitely would not have been possible without Charlene's help.

The hostel itself was also great! We stayed in a dorm which was comfortable with big lockers in each room. Giant and spotless kitchen. Clean bathrooms. Outgoing and friendly staff. Central location. One of the better hostels we stayed at in Australia!

Thanks again Charlene! Our trip was amazing because of you!

Wake Up hostel is located in the city center of Sydney. Close to the central station/bus station and minutes walk to George St. with all the pubs/clubs and shopping malls.

I stayed in a 4 bed dorm for couple weeks. The rooms are large enough, bunk beds are ok. Every room has its lockers, also on every floor are enough toilets and showers. There are also laundry facilities available but these cost 4 dollar.
The hostel has all the facilities for a backpacker, Wifi ( not free ) luggage storage, free walking tours downtown and to Bondi, and has every week pub crawls. In the basement is the bar located which has every night something going on. Also kitchens available.

Certainly a great hostel to meet people but not the cheapest one.

Room Tip: Rooms on the first or second floor can be noisy because of the pub in the basement, so opt for highe...
