“Stay here if you want to be assaulted and ripped-off.”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 11, 2011

I stayed here not so long ago and it was on par with the worst experience of my life. I made the booking and wanted to pay by Credit Card but was told I had to pay on arrival and when I questioned it I was told that I could have my booking cancelled in quite an abrupt manner. On arrival I could have easily turned back to the Airport it was so bad. I was manhandled on the stairs by someone I didn't even know in front of a girl who just laughed (Had I fallen backwards could have led to disastrous consequences) The showers jumped from hot to cold for no reason and was also kept awake by people singing in the corridor until 3am (How selfish is that) I would never recommend this place to anyone. It was so bad I left Australia, £2k later. Before I forget when I enquired about getting money back for time I never stayed at the place I was met by a very aggressive response "You will not get any money back, I have had this conversation with loads of other people" Whilst staying there, another backpacker came back late one night and was passed out on the couch by reception farting. What should have been the greatest year of my life turned out to be a complete disaster.

We at the Blue Parrot hostel Sydney are very proud of the top ratings given to us by our customers.
We are rated for the second year in a row as the hostel with the "Best Atmosphere" in Australia. Our staff have won the "Best Staff" award twice in the last 3 years.
It is not by accident that the Blue Parrot hostel has been on the top list of Hostelbookers and Hostelworld for a very long time now.

We keep strict records of all events and happenings and I can assure you we never had any assaults or rip-offs in this hostel.
The person that wrote this review went to a lot of trouble to write the same review on 3 different occasions using 2 different usernames and 2 different dates of arrival one year apart!

What to say....was supposed to look for a flat when i arrived in Sydney, a few months later i am still here!
Must say it's hard not to love the place, clean cozy friendly. The staff at reception are always there to help, the cleaner does an amazing job and everyone helps everyone. It's just one big family!
I have been in many hostels but have never made so many friends!
You haven't lived the real Australian backpacker life if you haven't stayed in the BP!

I can honestly say this hostel is brilliant! You know your onto a winner when you plan to stay in Sydney for a week and are still there 2 months down the line.
It's a very small hostel and as such you meet so many great people, everyone there is friendly and extremely helpful with everything from organising shuttles to best places to eat.
Organised events all week is a great way to meet people if your travelling solo or with a small group. I was working for a bit when I stayed and you have no trouble with noise or getting to sleep at night. Great hostel, great people.

three females from england, visiting sydney. blue parrot was the first hostel we stayed in. we arrived at blue parrot and there was a friendly face on reception who was more than helpful. rooms and bathrooms were basic but clean and tidy. lounge area with tv and dvd collection, washing area, back yard with sitting area....all useful. location in kingscross ideal as it is near to train station, shops and 20min walk into sydney city centre.
bedding was grubby in appearance but clean. kitchen was not appealing and small bugs were observed crawling in the fridge. we reported this to the staff who reportedly cleaned the fridge, however bugs were still observed.
overall blue parrot is recommended to all primarily for the friendly, welcoming and relaxed atmosphere it provides!

The hostel itself was nice and homey. I especially liked the staff who were VERY friendly and helpful with anything you needed.
It was generally clean, and couldn't really complain too much about that. I had no issues with the bed or the room I was in. All-in-all, a great experience and highly recommended.

The Blue Parrot Backpackers is located in Potts Point, one of the most expensive areas of Sydney, but is only a few minutes walk from the nightlight of Kings Cross.

This hostel is one of the most sociable I have stayed in and has a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere. During my stay I stopped in two rooms, one of which was much brighter and nicer than the other, so it would be worth asking to view before paying.

Free internet is reliable, ample fridge space is available and the hostel itself is very secure.
