“Overall pleasant and ideally located”

There is no doubt that this hotel is in need of an update to return to 5 star glory. In fact it struggles to make 4 star when you get past the front of house. However the rooms were pleasant and quiet but the furniture and TV outdated. Service was helpful but not brilliant. Overall would I stay there again? Well only if I wanted to be close to circular quay but not pay 50% more than what I paid here!

Booked this as a mystery hotel on wotif, supposed to be 5 star, but if you are expecting that you will leave disappointed. Very convenient, on the free shuttle bus route, and over Wynyard Station. Reception areas are quite nice, but rooms need a repaint, carpets need cleaning, and the bathroom needed a really good clean and regrout. Bed was comfortable apart from horrid pillows. Wifi was free and worked well. Best value was thw $20 wotif breakfast, very good. Staff were polite and helpful. The seafood buffet on Saturday was great. Altogether a refurb would be in order. Try to get a higher floor if you stay here, the lower floors have a ghastly outlook.

There was filth, possibly black mold, on the carpet around one of the corners of the room. The blind was badly discolored with large stains. The desk was so badly worn it would not have been fit to sell in a secondhand shop, the armchair had a stain on it, the chilled water tap on the air-conditioning was set to save the hotel power by preventing setting a temperature in the room under 21C - this hotel does this every single time I have stayed here requiring maintenance to be called to make adjustments in the crawl space above the room.

In the past I had good rooms in this hotel. The last two says have been terrible. Never ever again for me I'm affriad.

Quick check-in, friendly staff, beautiful big room, gorgeous bathroom, comfy plush bed!
Breakfast included in deal, yumo!

service issues - interrupt breakfast to discuss a bill this should never happen wait till after meal completed!
Also we rang concierge to have a taxi waiting for when we arrived in foyer, no taxi and we had to walk down the road to get one ourselves. Not 5 star service!

Had a great stay in this hotel. The room was clean with a comfortable bed and an amazing bathroom. We got a good cheap deal through Mystery Hotels on lastminute.com and it really was excellent value. The location couldn't have been better, with the Rocks, Harbour, Opera House, Botanical Gardens and main shopping area all within an easy walking distance. Would definitely stay there again.

The hotel was nice enough, but when a place is advertized as 5-star one tends to have certain expectations. To me, 5-star means it's in the same league as the Westins, Sofitels, etc, and I don't think this place was of that standard. The room was large and well equipped and clean, but everything seemed a little tired: a bit of repainting, maybe some new carpet, and a general sprucing up would have greatly improved it. Attention to detail was also a bit lacking, for example: not replacing the tea bags, nasty scented toilet paper, the towels being a bit rough. Nothing heinous, just not up to the same standard as 5-star hotels I've stayed in previously. I didn't have the room service or buffet breakfast (at ~$40 it seemed very expensive) or try the restaurant. A major plus was free internet (wired and wi-fi), and the room was quite well lit so it would be good for a business trip. The location was good. It's very close to Wynyard train station (it's pretty much under the hotel) and you can get the train direct to/from the airport from there, and there's a supermarket in the station mall, although it appeared to be closed on weekends. It's close to the CBD and the Rocks, and handy to Circular Quay for those catching ferries. Overall, I'd recommend this if you got a good deal on the room and as long as you weren't expecting a truly 5-star place - in this case it was reasonable value for money given the location and the free internet.

Hi,

Dont take this the wrong way, I have stayed here several times (many via wotif.com) and have been satisfied with the accommodation. However as someone else has said, it does not quite have the pazzaz that you would expect from a 5 star hotel.

However, if you can get yourself a good deal, then would recommend as the location is ideal for the CBD, Circular Quay and The Rocks. It also is right next to Wynyard Station, which will provide access to the whole of the Sydney Metro rail system, making it a good location if you are heading to or from the airport by train (putting aside the extortionate price of the train tickets from the Airport to the CBD!)
