“Service lets it down”
Reviewed April 21, 2011

My wife and I stayed here in April '11 after clicking on a "surprise hotel" website deal. We went in with an open mind. As far as decor, room and amenities, this hotel is no different than many other 4 star type corporate hotels in big cities - it has everything you need without really being standout. What DID standout though was the poor service. Here are examples:
1) we asked the concierge if he could arrange a taxi. We were left hanging for 20 mins and then told they had forgotten about us. We ended up booking our own taxi
2) if you pay by credit card you have to pay a surchage - what the...! This is a modern hotel - why are we being slugged surcharges? What a joke.
3) parking is exorbitant ($30+ a day) and often overcrowded. People are parking on one side of each up/down ramp between floors just to get spaces.
4) the parking system using tickets etc is so complicated you wanna be a NASA astronaut to figure it out - even the receptionist got confused
5) the room was okay, as noted above, but attention to detail...not so good. Think plaster cracks in corners, peeling paint etc

Unfortunately these are the things I remember, not the averageness of everything else.

Room Tip: Use as a last resort...

Great location, small room with a bathroom in need of a good clean. If you are on a budget look for a game console on the list of amenities on whotif mystery deals. This is by no means a five star hotel, more like a three. It is in need of refurbishment.

I found this hotel more than adequate for a night's accomodation that I needed in Sydney.
It is not cutting edge or overly luxurious/prestigous etc, but it is clean, well maintained, has all the ammenities you need, a good location and not ridiculously priced like some Sydney hotels are. At the end of the day I find all CBD hotels uninspiring, so why pay $500 a night for other places when you can get deals here for around $250 or so. I would stay here again if I needed good value accom in Sydney.

While the amora is in a good location the service here is extremely poor. Staff are unfriendly and unwilling to help. Level of service offered to room is poor, rooms not cleaned daily and supplies not replenished (ie towels). Far below what is expected from a 5 star hotel. I stay in Sydney every week for work and would not stay here again. Much better value elsewhere.

This was my second stay at this Hotel. I had stayed four nights with my daughter in January 2010 when she was in Sydney for a job recruitment seminar held at the Hotel's conference rooms. This time my husband and I needed overnight accomodation before a New Zealand cruise leaving from Circular Quay. We decided on using the mystery Wotif Hotel mainly for price reasons, and were pleasantly surprised when we found that this hotel was our destination.
The Hotel is well positioned.....walking distance back to the centre of Sydney for shopping or restaurants and very close to Sydney Harbour and all it has to offer. You could easily walk with luggage to the terminal if the weather is good ( not our luck that day so a quick cab ride was required!)
The rooms aren't huge but are still very comfortable and nicely decorated and appointed. Neither of the rooms I stayed in had a view but this wasn't a deal breaker for me. The bathroom is quite spacious and had a bath as an added extra if time permitted.
We didn't use any of the onsite food facilities as areas such as The Rocks are so close by with lots of choices available.
The staff, on both occassions were friendly and helpful with directions and the holding of luggage after check-out time. Check-in & out were smooth and quick even though we arrived before normal check-in time.
Without a discount of some sort, this Hotel is not the cheapest around but the position does make it an excellent choice when visiting Sydney for sightseeing especially.

I cannot really make up my mind about the Amora Jamison. The location is good, the lobby is smart, the lifts are annoying (see other reviews), the room is a decent size and smart. The breakfast is poor for what you pay with limited selection and mediocre coffee. The internet is slow and expensive. The TV channels limited. The service fine. It is all just a bit bland I suppose for such a great city. Mind you, I think the standards of hotel in Sydney generally is pretty poor.
Ultimately the hotel is fine. For Sydney the price is in the market range. It is just all a but uninspiring.

We stayed for 3 nights on a tour of Australia and New Zealand. The rooms seemed small, and our view of the harbor was blocked by a large office building. We didn't notice any of the dirt issues others reviews have mentioned. The twin beds were somewhat hard, though the selection of pillows was nice. The beds were not well made, with bottom sheets untucked. The breakfast was standard Australian, with may choices. Sadly the bacon was underdone as were the scrambled eggs. Omelets made to order were very good.
This is a very nice hotel, well located for all the the attractions in the Rocks and at the Harbor. I would not give it 5 stars, however, maybe 4.
