“5 minutes from the action but a world away”
Reviewed November 11, 2012

It is only a 5 minute walk from the entertainment centre, chinatown and Darling Harbour but it is located in a quiet tree lined street that could be miles away. Yes, the motel is dated, but the rooms are a good size and you have a balcony ! I would recommend the delux room as they have been renovated. The motel is very resonably priced and I picked up a great deal that included parking and wine. Do you self a favour and save your self a $100 for being 5 minutes "out of town".

Room Tip: Get a delux room on the top floor overlooking the city.

Located in Ultimo, this motel is convenient if you wish to go to darling Harbour, the Chinese quarter or for that matter anywhere in the CBD (though then there is walking or the light-rail or taxi involved). The rooms I have stayed in had openable windows or balcony doors so there was plenty of fresh air, but almost no city noise or pollution - great! Unfortunately the room furniture is very worn - in fact, it isn't uncommon to find the fabric on the chairs or settees worn through to the underlying timber. The decor is also quite dark and dated. Parking a vehicle costs some $26 per night; cooked buffet breakfast some $15 per person.

This hotel is in need of a renovation with tired rooms and bathrooms, but its pricing is great and the location os very convenient.
A drawback is that there seems to be no food available on site - but there are cafes near by...
The room cleaning during our stay was a littletoken, but the room was clean to start with.

Spent 2 nights at Aspire hotel in Sydney in September 2012. I found the hotel to be budget-priced which is why l chose it while being within easy 15 minute casual walking distance to Darling Harbour, the Convention Centre, Paddy's market, etc. It was cheap in price but not cheap in quality in other areas. The hotel was quiet, didnt have a problem hearing any other guests although l could hear them if standing outside on the balcony; the rooms were large and very roomy, I had a Queen bed which was firm but comfortable and a large single bed in my room and there was room for another bed still. Linen was of great quality - l'd say 1200 thread count coz the sheets felt great. It was nice having a balcony where l could open the door and let the fresh air in. The view wasn't much during the day but l could see some of Sydneys lights over the building across the road at night but l didn't spend alot of time in my room. Rooms on the higher floors would probably have nice views of the city though. The room had its own temperature control which actually worked unlike alot of hotels l have stayed in, the bathroom was clean & no mould present, had a bathtub, over bath shower with wonderful water pressure, a large bench area and they supplied shampoo, conditioner, bodywash, body moisturiser, razors, hair dryer, etc. Tea & coffee with coffee mugs as well as tea cups & an empty fridge were supplied in the room, in room safe, iron, ironing board, digital alarm clock, large tv with plenty of channels to choose from. The drapes over the sliding door were also blackout quality so as not to be woken by the sun coming in. There was a drinks machine in the foyer where you could purchase a variety of cold alcoholic beverages from and softdrinks as well as another with snack foods. Internet access is available in the business room just off the foyer about $5 per hour on their computer but they request you only use for one hour at a time to allow others the opportunity to use it which l thought was a good idea or there is wifi in the lounge area just outside the business centre room. The staff were all very friendly and obliging although some had poor English speaking skills. They have a restaurant which is open for breakfast $15pp but l did not eat there. There is also a lockup garage for carparking but l did not have a car so did not go down there.Car parking was about $25 a day l think but you can leave your car there after checkout for $18 (pretty sure thats right) until 6pm which for Sydney is quite cheap. The foyer didn't look over-exciting but was clean and it didn't look like a dive either. They also have a small room next to the service desk which they lock away baggage which is left for pickup later.
It was walking distance to Broadway shopping area and a 10minute walk to get to Parramatta Rd and Central station for buses and trains. A train ticket to the domestic airport from here was about $15 - only 2-3 stops.
There are fruit bats in the trees outside so if you like leaving the balcony door open all night their noise might annoy you but you cant hear them with the door closed.
I think this place was great value for money, in an ideal location, the room was surprisingly big and l had a really good quality of sleep ... I would definitely stay there again and l would recommend it to others but if you want a great view from your room then ask to stay on a higher floor.
The only complaints l have against the hotel is there wasn't a small table and chairs out on the balcony to sit outside in the sun with a coffee (but maybe that is because of the bats soiling them) and they have card-opening doors and l had to swipe my card a dozen times at least before l could get it to unlock the door. This was every time l went into the room, once l even went back to reception and they reconfigured my card but when l got back to my room l still had to swipe it several times before the door unlocked.

The Aspire is a 10 minute walk to the the perimeter of the Sydney central business district if you take the pedestrian walkway approaching Darling Harbour (only 5 minutes from the Aspire). It is just 3 minutes to the Powerhouse Museum.
This hotel is in a very quiet location adjacent to a nice little park and the historic buildings within the Tafe grounds, where you will find a very good cafeteria. There are many interesting old terrace builldings in the same and adjacent streets, and ample nice cafes restaurants and take aways close to the hotel.
The rooms in the hotel are quite spacious, with very comfortable bedding and modern tiled bathroom. Within the room there was a small table and two comfortable chairs and a long bench area with TV and tea and coffee making facilities. The furniture was marked just a little with wear. There is also a lounge suite which I found to be sagging and in my opinion needs to be replaced or discarded. The views from the rooms are quite pleasant, some facing the city skyscrapers The front of hotel building though could be improved with a fresh coat of paint. The staff were efficient and helpful.

Room Tip: Probably nice to have a room on the higher level for a better outlook to your surroundings.

I booked blind through Wotif on a 4-night discounted stay. The hotel is dated, the beds likewise but I slept well but the rooms are above average in size. The staff were great; friendly and helpful (and could speak English well which sometimes doesn't happen it 3.5 star establishments).
So it was great value for money; everything is clean and you have your own private balcony (most rooms it seems). Not that far from Paddys Market and Central so when you get your bearings this hotel (at its price) may work quite well for the budget traveller. No pool, spa, gym but that's not the end of the world.

Smoking might be an issue in the warmer months though if you like your balcony door open.

Room Tip: Buy a 7-day MetroConnect off the light rail conducter @$31 to give you unlimited tram and monorail t...
