An experience, good food, alright service.
When there is a queue at the door something has to be good.
Ate here a couple of evenings, crowded out both times.
Out of a hundred.......perhaps 70.

“Great seafood, great attitude.”
Reviewed February 4, 2014

There are restaurants in this area where the staff act like they're doing you a favour by even being there, there's even one next door! Not here, the staff show an interest in their work and are welcoming, and the seafood is consistently excellent, tasty and interestIng. Four visits so far, I'll be back.

“Its chips-ahoy with rave flavours”
Reviewed January 31, 2014

When waiters swan around the room in blue and white Gaultier t-shirts looking like walking perfume bottles, and the heady aromas of fishies and chippies are authentic and fresh,we knew we had hooked a winner.
This is East Sydney at its best. Industrial lampshades, the toilets with rope handles and signs that read "buoys and gulls" the menu is a mix of chip shop classics. We loved the strands of cuttlefish with garlic, chilli & parsley served with lemon a few crusts of bread. The braised octopus with chickpeas was a winner, followed by the big-hitter,hapuka fillets cooked in paper with a side salad of baby cos, radish and cucumber.
My femme tried the croquettes of eel and mash with horseradish and immediately hoisted her flag of satisfaction. The ice cream sandwich floated by we passed it on giggling crazily.

“disappointing”
Reviewed January 17, 2014

Poor service! We were seated and it took 15 mins to get a drink order and then half an hour to receive our drinks. They made mistakes with our food order which took ages to be fixed.

I would say they need more staff to cover the venue and make the experience an enjoyable one as its a cool vibe but service is key.

“Lived up to the Hype!”
Reviewed January 14, 2014

The first thing you must know when reading this review is that my husband considers himself an excellent judge of Fish N Chips. Family members tell us where they have had awesome Fish N Chips and when we make it to that city, we give them a try. So, when our nephew contacted my husband after a recent visit to The Fish Shop and said he needed to taste their Fish N Chips, we knew a meal here would be included in our visit to Sydney. We arrived to a casual fish shop with a clever nautical/surfer theme and a very welcoming staff. Started off by sharing a calamari appetizer with a couple of beers. The calamari was well prepared, well-seasoned and very fresh, so we were off to a great start. Then, the Fish N Chips arrived. They were excellent! These were not frozen fish fillets thrown into heavy grease, these were filets of sweet white fish (so chunky, at first sight it looked like chicken). They were lightly breaded and fried to perfection. My husband’s rating? 9.5 overall and the best he had in Australia. Note: We spent 30 days touring all over Australia …and he probably had 20 orders of Fish N Chips, so that is quite something! So yes, they lived up to the hype! Give this place a try.
