This is the formal seat of government for New South Wales. Most official affairs take place here.
There is an excellent paid guided tour that takes about an hour and goes through a lot of the history of NSW and the government house(s) that preceded this one.
No photography is permitted until the last two rooms - I think this is mostly to keep the tours on schedule and discourage stragglers. The gardens outside are beautiful and worth a visit.
