It is a magnificent place. The decor and elegance is outstanding. The grounds are very nice to walk around in. Concerts and events are held there often. It's a great day out and very near the Botanical Gardens

We were lucky to have an experienced guide, who had a great knowledge of the governors and life of the house, particularly the current incumbent, Marie Bashir. Groups are small, making for a pleasant and informative tour. Afterwards, we sat outside on the verandah for what must be some of the best views of the gardens and harbour.

We stumbled upon the Government House by accident and I'm really glad we did. Overlooking the Botanic gardens, it's a beautiful building. The only way you can get inside is by booking on to a tour which lasts for an hour and starts every half hour. The tour is free, which is great, and you visit a large selection of rooms (my favourite was the ballroom).
What slightly ruined it for me though was some of the other tourists that were either unaware of or chose to ignore the rules. When you book on to a tour you're given a time to meet. Two people attempted to come on to our tour (which was fully booked and they had been informed of this many times) when theirs was later in the day, which caused a delay for ours. There were two girls who argued about taking food in when that was against the rules and others that continually used and took photos on their mobile phones throughout the tour which is banned.
Please be aware of the rules before you go. Great tour otherwise.

We visited Government House on a Sunday afternoon without having planned to go there at all. The tour was nearly an hour long and took in the downstairs official and entertaining rooms of the NSW's Governors' building. It was an interesting glimpse of Aussie history and completely free of charge. The gardens were lovely and back onto the harbour and Botanical Gardens. Great central location and an unexpexted educational stop on a walk around the city.
