My room had bedbugs, and both the room and guests that live there smelled funky. It may look inviting on the outside, but it's really not a great place to stay. "Decay" is the word that fits best.

ok, so not the cleanest, funkiest place in Sydney. But if you're staying for a while, need to find some casual work, and want to meet some people, then it's ideal.

The location is great - i really like Glebe, and it's only a 5 minute bus or a 15 minute walk into the city.

There's a range of rooms and like most places the 10-bed dorms can be smelly and messy. They have doubles if you want to spend more.

I stayed for 2 months and met some lifelong friends there, back in 2007. Been back recently and nothing has changed.

Room Tip: stay away from the bigger dorms

Be extremly careful staying here, they have a tendancy to block you from entering your room if someone in their hasn't paid their rent even if your not associated with them.
The bedding is dirty and uncomfortable, be careful plugging in appliances as I nearly got frazzeled by a dodgy electrics resulting in blowing a fuse.
The daytime staff are nice but the weirdo who works the night shifts can make anyone feel intimidated and definately UNWELCOME!!!
Its way over priced for what you get aswell, don't get led in by the free breakfast, its just bread and stale cereal, that's if there's any left and the kitchen is unlocked!

Having moved next door from Glebe Point YHA I was pleasantly surprised. The room was quite nice and cool - we had a relatively new bathroom, free breakfast (no frills, but who can complain) and all round a good stay. The kitchen and common outside area are nice and everyone was friendly. It is a backpackers and there really are no frills but it is pretty good. The only complaint was the rather rickety bed - get the bottom bunk if you can!

Staying at the Glebe Village Backpackers was great as it enabled me to do some of the fun touristy things around Sydney, such as:

Sydney Wildlife World
Cuddle Koalas, watch the Kangaroos & meet 'Rex' the Crocidile at Sydney Wildlife World

Fort Denison
Island Museum in Sydney Harbour has link to Titanic

Contemporary Museum of Art
Contemporary Art at its most Splendid

All this and affordable accommodation at a huge old house in Glebe, very cool and fun
