We usually stay in the CBD but opted to try the Sebel Surry Hills when in town for a wine club dinner nearby. The location is terrific and our room on the western end of the eighth floor was extremely quiet given the bustling (Central) railway station just outside. This hotel is cheaper than its Pier One cousin (where we stayed the previous weekend) but it is pitching to a different market and the base level room easily met our needs for a clean, comfortable and accessible bolt hole for the night. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom serviceable though small-ish. The hotel staff were really friendly (thanks Alvin for a competent and cheerful check in) and on the morning we left were coping well with a busy checkout and a lot of traffic heading to the conference rooms.

The lobby has been revamped and the art is worth a look. On a return visit I would try out the bar, it seemed relaxed and welcoming as we wandered past on the way out. We also didn't check the gym or pool due to time constraints.

On site parking is well priced and gets very full during the day. It's a bit tricky to navigate when cars are parked out of spaces and I recommend scoping out where the exit is before you get in to drive off!

I stayed at the Sebel Surry Hills for business recently and found the facility excellent in every respect. Particular note of the beds in this establishment - I wanted to take the bed home! The most comfortable I have ever slept in.

This place has a Great bar. Room service menu OK but not great. Rooms are nice enough at a good standard...bed was too soft for me and had probably had too many miles. Good for a business stay... I will stay there again.

We stayed for 5 nights. Not once did anyone at the front desk (whom we passed at least 3 or 4 times a day) acknowledge us as regular guests, or even deign to ask us how we're enjoying the stay. Nada. Nothing. Zip.

The "hospitality" certainly was missing in THIS hospitality business.
Hey ... I'm Australian. We're friendly!! What are you doing to our well-deserved reputation??

Security? What security? Access through any of the side doors at the front of the hotel lead directly to elevators which are unsecured and go to any floor. Just walk on in and head on up! No staff anywhere near these doors!

Breakfast service? Yeah ... After a fashion. This is not a 1 star hotel! When product on the buffet runs low or is finished, it should be replaced BEFORE guests guests ask. Condiments should always be out, not only on Wednesdays and Thursdays - obviously a change in staff.
No staff to be seen for lengthy periods. Tables left uncleared for too long & used crockery allowed to remain on the table to the point that we needed to shift it to the next door table.

All in all, I would not recommend this establishment.

Last weekend my partner and I stayed at the Sebel for 2 nights.
We were so happy to get a great price for the room, considering it was the last weekend for Vivid.
The hotel is in the middle of Chinatown and Surry Hills. It was just where we wanted to be. It was a short hike up to Crown St and Oxford St, and about 10 minutes walk to Haymarket.
The room was lovely, large and clean, and the staff were really nice as well. The facilities were great, 24 hour room service, 2 restaurants and even a bar with poker machines!!!
The only annoying thing was the lift, which was so slow, and as our room was opposite the lift, we got woken up at 4am by people getting out of it, but that's not the hotels fault.
A great value hotel in amongst it all!!

While the location was excellent, this is the only positive feedback that I can provide.

The service at the reception desk was poor. Staff were rude and disinterested.

On our first day we returned to our room after having lunch to find a hotel staff member in our room.
He responded "oh, is this your room?" and left without explaining himself.

That night, I was woken up at 5.30am by the sound of something moving in my room.
I found that someone was pushing a porno centrefold under our door.

I will not be returning, EVER.

Stayed at the Sebel for an overnight trip to Sydney, position wise it cannot be beaten, 5 minute walk from Central station after getting the train in from the airport. Rooms were clean and a good size but seemed a little tired as did the main foyer area which although clean just lacked atmosphere. Went up to the sun deck on the 5th floor and decided it definitely needs some work, bricks were not level, with weeds coming through the cracks when it could be so much more.
breakfast offerings were very good and the adjacent bar was good..
