The Friendship Garden was in a state of incipient spring bloom when we went recently. The day was warm and the blossoms were out, so very charming scenes unfolded before our eyes!

We were jetlagged and tired. The hotel didn't have room for us for another 5 hours. We followed our instincts and walked towards Darling Harbour and found this haven of natural and man-made beauty. It was tranquil. It was slow-paced. It was just what we needed.

For everything they squeeze in there. It's quite compact. You don't just stand in one place and admire, though. There are various paths through the place and we wandered at will, taking in new vistas and new features at every turn.

We found touches from other Asian countries, not just China, presumably gifts from civic dignitaries passing through. There was also a certain amount of Australian fauna passing through - our first encounter with the wonderful birds of New South Wales.

There were quite a lot of people there but, thanks the artificial hills and meandering paths, it never felt crowded, just relaxing and warm. In our jetlagged state, it was life-restoring.

This spot is in the heart of Sydney but you would know it when wandering around. It is so well set out with little spots to sit and relax. Worth a visit.

Great value at $6.00 to get in. The gardens are beautiful and well laid out with many ponds and waterfalls. The ponds are full of Koi and on nearly every rock you will find a water dragon sunning itself. Great place to wander around or just sit quietely and relax. Wish my backyard was big enough to recreate parts of it.

Such beautiful gardens to visit within the city. The admission is really reasonable to have a little break for an hour from the busy city life. If you are in Darling Harbour area make sure you pay a visit here. You won't be disappointed. Even my 2 teenage sons enjoyed it (especially watching the lizards).
