As a local I have never done anything like this before and it was a great day. The tour guide was very imformaive and the length of the tour was good. The service and quality of food nd drinks supplied was very good. I highly recommend this tour not only for locals to know more about the city we live in but anyone visiting the city.

We went to Goat Island for the Convicts, Castles and Champagne cruise with Unique Sydney Cruises, which left from Campbell's Cove near Circular Quay. Our ferry, the Wangi Queen, took us under the Sydney Harbour Bridge to Goat Island while we sipped complimentary beer, sparkling or still wines. At the island, we were taken straightaway for a nice buffet lunch consisting of prawns, carved ham and beef, salad, bread rolls etc with an open bar providing alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

After lunch, we set off on the tour with our knowledgeable guides. We saw convict carvings, the cooperage, the Queen's powder keg where ammunition was stored, the convict built house used by Sir Thomas Mitchell (inside and outside), the Harbourmaster's cottage, the rock where "Boney" was tied up and kept prisoner, the lime kiln which utilised shells from an Aboriginal midden to make lime for cement and other odds and ends.

Apart from the historical aspects, we also saw where they made the TV series "Water Rats" and got to see the rookery where seagulls were nesting, some with adorable chicks. There were also great views of Sydney Harbour, Darling Harbour and Barangaroo.

Afterwards, we got the ferry back to Circular Quay, again with an open bar. We cruised past the Opera House towards Garden Island as a nice little diversion before tying back up at Campbell's Cove.

Pros

- a three hour tour
- lunch is provided
- open bar provided
- knowledgeable guides
- reasonably flat walking
- great views of Sydney
- embarkation point only a short 5 minute walk from Circular Quay station

Cons

- toilets only at the starting point of the tour

Tips

- check out the special deals with CUDO etc. You can pick up a cheaper price sometimes.
- go to the toilet before the walking part of the tour begins
- bring wet weather gear if it looks like rain. The tour goes ahead in rain.

This is quite a good tour with a quirky title but it could be so much better especially as It is far from cheap! The old ferry that transported us was shabby and dirty looking with a musty smell. Most of us opted to sit outside and it seemed that the tour guide spent most of the time with us, ignoring the people who were left sitting inside.
We were given a glass of some sort of sparkling wine on the boat and our guide,Colin, regaled us with facts and stories concerning Sydney Harbour and Goat Island.
The island tour was moderately interesting but we disturbed hundreds of nesting seagulls who swooped at us and maybe we should not have walked so close to them when they had their chicks.
A basic cold lunch was served in a horrible old boat house, with prawns sitting in puddles of melting ice, cold meat, rolls and salads. It was a shame that we couldn't have a picnic lunch outside with the stunning views of the Harbour. There was plenty of alcohol though, with wines and beer.
After lunch we were back on board again and small muffins were passed around and more sparkling wine offered, and we "cruised" round the Harbour for a bit but there seemed no point as there was no commentary.
We were a small group thank goodness. It was a lovely day and the views were fabulous, and it was cool to hear the history of the island. I wouldn't want to do this tour on a hot day though as one is very exposed on the tour of the island.
The highlight for me was when Colin sang for those of us sitting outside as we returned to dock. Beautiful, but maybe not for the people sitting downstairs on the boat!
Take this tour to the next level guys...please.
