Owner description: Climb aboard and join the action at the Australian National Maritime Museum. Spectacularly located on the waterfront in the heart of Sydney's Darling Harbour, you'll find tall ships, Navy vessels, a submarine, beautifully restored historic boats, fascinating temporary and travelling exhibitions and fun-filled activities for the kids. The museum houses the National Maritime Collection, which features over 140,000 objects, capturing themes such as defence, exploration, migration and coastal culture. It also includes one of the largest and most diverse in-water fleets of any museum in the world - including submarine HMAS Onslow, Navy destroyer HMAS Vampire, tall ship James Craig and Captain James Cook's HMB Endeavour replica. Visiting the Action Stations exhibition is a must for an immersive museum experience like no other, where you can explore that danger and drama of Navy life at sea.

at first i never considered going here but then after reading some review here i decided to go and I LOVE IT !
all the ships are nice. there are 4 ship, James Craig, Endeavor, submarine Onslow and destroyer 'Vampire'. I myself especially like the destroyer.
All the volunteers who help guided you through the ship are really willing to work and really nice. Be sure to wait for the guided tour of the destroyer Vampire. (every 30 minutes. they said the tour took 40 minutes but our groups, consist of 5 people, took an hour) Much more informations and access to some part that are only allowed when guided. Our guide was the one working on this ship before, Cool !

If going to the Maritime Museum, ensure you pay the extra money to see the submarine and destroyer. They were fantastic. Initially when my husband suggested that we take the kids here, I was trying to think of an excuse to get out of it, but I'm so pleased I went. How anyone can work in a submarine is beyond me - what amazing people, to be admired. Well worth the visit.

This is a very popular venue for school groups during the week. They usually in the museum between 10am-2pm Mon-Fri. Weekends can be busy with family groups, but it is not as busy in summer when the weather is good, as people prefer to do outdoor activities. There are a lot of interesting displays to be seen. After visiting the museum there are many places to eat at Darling Harbour as well as shops to browse. The IMAX Theatre is nearby as well as The Star Casino, which has up market retail shops and a good range of restaurants. Lots to do in this part of town. Have fun!

We paid the extra money to visit the sub, destroyer, and the Endeavor. It was stiff but worth it, especially on the replica of the Endeavor. It has, itself, been sailed around the world so its fittings genuinely suggest the nature of Cook's trips aboard it. You'll be amazed at what the crew put up with! (And not that greatly improved 300 years later, if the destroyer is a hint.) The volunteers must be commended, too. They are all very well informed and enthusiastic. If you're interested, they're delighted to tell you everything. As for the museum proper, you can skip it although, at $7, it's one of the more reasonable attractions in Sydney.
