“Elegant old hotel”
Reviewed November 18, 2012

We have often walked past this small boutiquie hotel on Flinders street Sydney but had never ventured inside to look around, so we decided to give it a try and booked in last weekend as we dining close by and thought to make a romantic weekend of it. We booked a manor king room which we found to be delightful. The staff were friendly and efficient and the hotel was to coin a phrase "quaint". We enjoyed our stay and will definitly go back. The only negative was the Continental breakfast which did not measure up to what I would have expected had we actually been breakfasting in Europe.

I booked Manor House Hotel through lastminute.com. I stay overnight in Sydney fairly frequently and normally stay in a CBD 5* hotel but for some reason, they all seemed booked or prohitively expensive for this particular night. I noticed the Manor House "Boutique" Hotel advertised as 4 1/2 stars and the photos made the place look very elegant and full of character. How misleading! As soon as I walked into the hotel, I knew I was in trouble. It might have been lovely once but is very tired and in serious need of updating. I was in a Manor King Room, and paid a rate eqivalent to waht I would pay for 5*'s and could not believe the decor in bedroom and bathroom. The "antique furniture" is basically just second hand old furniture and the artwork likely picked up at flea markets for a couple of dollars! The bathroom felt like a relic from the 70's and was tired and grubby. The towels were thin and tiny and a far cry from the comforting, fluffy towel you would expect from a supposed upmarket hotel. The pillows were lumpy and I am not sure if it was psychosomatic but I felt like I scratched all night. The hotel is located on a main road and my room was around 30 meters from the bus lane ... doesnt make for a quiet and relaxing night. The pool is reminisant of a foot spa and I cannot imagine for one second anyone would ever contemplate going in it! If this hotel was ever rated 4 1/2 stars (maybe around 20 years ago), it needs re rating. Never, ever again .... the Manor House gives the term "boutique" a bad rap!

I stayed at the Manor House Hotel with my family and we all enjoyed it. The hotel is an elegant old building on a fairly busy road, sitting serenely behind a large water fountain and small garden. The reception is warm, the staff are helpful and friendly and the rooms we had were elegantly furnished and perfect for relaxation and quiet retreat after a busy day.

Parking is a bit of a hassle and needs to be pre-arranged, involving lining up guest's cars in one driveway and a bit of to-ing and fro-ing when you want to get out... but much better than parking on the street.

There are lots of great restaurants nearby (we found ours via SMH Good Food guide) if you don't want to drive everywhere and buses are plentiful.

Our only disappointment was breakfast, which could easily have been better than ordinary... but, given the charm of the place, that really didn't matter too much.

This gracious old building is very unique accommocation. Staff were helpful, rooms good value. Terrific spot in Darlinghurst, easy access to Surry Hills, City, airport, etc.
This is an historic building, with many unique quirks. We found it quiet, and enjoy the old worlde charm. However there are some shortcomings/challenges with this. A lot of antique style furniture is large and pretty dated and sometimes either useless (bathroom vanities) or uncomfortable (bedheads).

We stayed here one night on a weekend, and enjoyed it. It's comfortable and classy, like staying at a very rich friend's house.

We stayed in the Stable room and it comprised a comfy king size bed (although my husband had a sore neck the following morning - probably from the pillows), TV, mini bar, good size bathroom (no bath) and free wifi.

Breakfast the following morning was ok - nothing special - but pretty convenient and in a cute spot. There is a lounge area too where you can take drinks, read the paper etc - we checked it out but didn't linger. Parking was an extra $25 a night, which is a pain but necessary.

I love being so close to a really vibrant and interesting part of Sydney and all its bars, cafes and restaurants, and it's a good walk into the CBD.

Found this place by accident, read the reviews on here and took a punt. Which paid off - big time. Staff were exceedingly helpful. Extremely close to our evening destinations, and the decor and layout was exquisite. A genuine boutique hotel, with authentic fittings, furniture and ornaments. No pretending. Only negative was EXTREMELY scarce parking for overnight on street, only option for us was to pay $25 for onsite parking.

Breakfast was simple, yet extremely comprehensive and the bed and linen were surprisingly comfortable.

Would not only recommend and return, but consider this venue for longer term stays.

Room Tip: Ask at the desk. If it is a special occasion they may upgrade to a suite.

Manor House had everything we needed.take the airport shuttle to get there and you won't need a car if you find a 15 minute walk to the Harbour doable. The rooms are charming, breakfast was ample and had choices. Loved the breakfast area and the reading room. They will store your luggage on check out day and free wifi! Reasonable price for expensive Sydney.

Room Tip: Quiet, well-lighted room worked for us.
