The Sydney Harbor Bridge is such a beautiful landmark. What better way to spend a morning than to walk across it? We got an early start, parking in The Rocks area, which is also beautiful and we walked up to the bridge entrance and embarked on a tour of the bridge itself. For the adventurous, check out the Bridge Climb outfit, that gives you full mountain climbing gear and walkie-talkies and allows you to literally climb onto the bridge structure (takes like 3 hours). We stuck to the pedestrian walkway. The views are just stunning! Looking back at Sydney Harbor and all of the other landmarks such as the Opera House is great. Wonderful photo opportunities abound. The bridge is just a few years older than the San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge, and the walk is lovely but I was missing the unimpeded views from San Francisco, since the GG Bridge does not have a "cage" surrounding the walkway. And yes, more people jump for that reason. At Sydney, the walkway is almost surrounded by fencing, but they do at least leave a little space open to look and take pictures. Since the bridge is beautiful it is a must-do activity to walk it when in Sydney. We were a bit too early to enter the pylon to go to the top of the support for even better views. But note that, like most things in Sydney, this is a for-fee part of the bridge - costing $11/adult. It opens at 10am.
