From the moment we walked through the door we knew we'd hit the jackpot with Simpson's. Impressive from the outside and full of old worldly character within. The gorgeous bubbly Ree, manager extrodinaire, gave us a very warm welcome before showing us around this beautiful hotel.
Our room was spacious and tastefully decorated. Enjoyed having the choice of either fresh air with the opened windows, or ducted air-conditioning.
Although this hotel is situated in a very cosmopolitan part of town it was surprisingly quiet and peaceful. Everything is in walking distance so important to pack a good pair of walking shoes. Surrounded by restaurants, coffee shops and boutiques. The walk to the CBD is an absolute treat, taking the scenic route around the harbour via the Opera House, Circular Quay, and eventually into the heart of the city.
Our days and evenings spent in Sydney were very full and busy, so we looked forward to nothing more at the end of the day, then coming "home" to Simpsons and settling down to a glass or two of sherry before retiring up to our lovely room for the night.
Ree was a wonderful host - i felt like i'd been friends with her for years. She was very helpful, pre-empting our needs, always good humoured and full of fun, and at the same time always the consumate professional. Can't imagine Simpson's without her.
Looking forward to our next weekend in Sydney, staying at Simpson's, of course - wouldn't want to stay anywhere else now.

We stayed a week in 2008 then returned for 4 nights in March 2010. As mentioned in previous reviews, the location is perfect for so many reasons: many excellent restaurants, beautiful streets, ideal for walking through the Botanical Gardens to Sydney harbour and the ferry terminal. The owners and staff (Keith, Ree and Marie) are the single most ourstanding feature: friendly, funny, full of great ideas, even for the routing and activity suggestions for our on-going journey. We stayed in dormer room #13 which was bright and spacious. If you are there on a Saturday be sure to go to the Paddington Market (walkable). A tip: by planning ahead and paying in cash you can save on surcharges for using a credit card fees. This charge seems to be common in Australia although we haven't seen it at home (Canada). If we are fortunate to get to Sydney again, we will be back at Simpsons.

The place ist just more than just a hotel. It offers a house full of history, culture and style with generously equipped rooms still breathing the splendor of the past. This - together with hosts who offer you a warm and friendly welcome, always ready to provide you with any usefuk information you might need - made us really feel at home far away from home. Should we ever come back to Sydney, Simpsons will be our advice. There can hardly be a better place to stay in Sydney.

First I must apologize for the long delay in writing this review. This was our first visit to Australia for my wife Judy and recently college graduate daughter Jenny. Our stay at the Simpson's hotel in Sydney was our last stop before flying home. This was by far the best B &B we stayed in. We stayed in the family room which was large and beautifully decorated. It is in a great location, walking distance to the botanical gardens, the harbour, The Opera house, and restaurants. Ree is a wealth of information. Our last day, and after a long day of sight seeing, we picked up a cheese platter and bottle of wine and talked Ree into joining us. A great storyteller and sense of humor. We look forward to a return trip to the Simpson.

We stayed at Simpsons for a week for our honeymoon, I had seen the reviews on Trip Advisor and had booked as a result. When we initially booked our accommodation I found the owners very helpful - they answered our emails promptly and once booked emailed us with information about the local area, how to get to the hotel etc. When we arrived we were greeted by Keith who took the time to tell us about the local area, good restaurants, walks into the centre of Sydney. We had booked one of the Dormer rooms at the top of the house - the room was a good size with a good en-suite bathroom. The room had a flat screen TV and a fridge with reasonably priced drinks.
The rooms were serviced everyday to a high standard. A continental breakfast was served every morning and although they don't have room service you are able to take a tray up to the room (which my husband did for me on a few occasions!)
The hotel is beautiful and has been restored to a high standard. My husband was impressed by the complimentary port and sherry which was in the main living room! There was also a computer terminal with free internet access.
Potts Point is a lovely area with lots of cafes and restaurants. It is a 25-30 minute walk into the centre of Sydney - although be warned the McElhone Stairs which you have to walk down (and up) have 120 steps and are quite steep! There are also local buses and Kings Cross station is only an 8 minute walk.
All the staff were friendly and helpful and all three owners knew you by name. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to stay somewhere different to celebrate a special occasion (like a honeymoon, anniversary etc) - the rooms are a bit more pricey than other hotels (around £170 per night) but worth it.
