Not sure if there were other tour options as we did not book this ourselves, but I was disappointed as I thought we would get to see more of the backstage, dressing room, tech type stuff.
The videos on the building of the Opera House were neat and it was something I was glad I had done. Nice view of the bridge.

It is a curious building - a sailing boat in a distant ocean. The color is surpricingly yellowish in the daytime and cleaner white in the night. Inside it is 70s's style, modern and uglish. The quality of opera is nothing exceptional but for the one-in-a-lifetime, that's ok. The refreshment are surpricingly modestly priced.

It's really worth taking the time to do a tour - for all of Sydney's considerable charms, the Opera House is the most famous feature of the city for a reason.

Pro tip for young travelers on a budget: if you turn up at the box office about 1 hour before a show starts, you can often pick up a "student rush" ticket. Any international student ID card will qualify you. I've done this a few times in the past, and ended up in A reserve seats (the people next to me probably paid $400+ for their ticket) for the princely sum of $50!

Loved the building and discovering it many different shapes and theatres. Sadly there was a school event on when we wanted to do the tour and we planned to return, however when we did we still couldn't get on the tour due to performances. Had a look around inside and the wonderful views from here. Well worth a visit.

If you have time make sure you take the tour. It is fascinating to learn the history and to have a guide explain the structure in detail as they take you around. If you are a senior be sure to ask for the discount rate.
