“Architectural gem of Sydney”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2013

We took the tour which was a bit pricey. However we learned so much from the guide that the price was well worth it. We even watched a ballet class and saw them set up the stage for the group Counting Crows. The views from the outside of the harbor bridge and Circular Quay were magnificent. A must see in Sydney.

“Excellent venue with outdated ticketing options”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2013

The performance and performances spaces are world class. The building is breathtaking. The ticketing options are astoundingly outdated considering it is 2013.
The two options available are postage or box office collection. As the requisite timeframe before the performance had passed, I picked up at the box office. The queue was not managed, the staffmembers put closed signs in the window despite 19 people in the queue and despite a sign clearly indicating to queue in the centre, they continued to serve people who jumped in from the sides, totally cutting the queue all together. This made for a frustrating 32 minute wait on a Saturday afternoon when the area was packed with people. The staffmember I spoke to assured me unequivocally that the show I was there to collect a ticket (I had already purchased it) was not on and she had never heard of it. After going out to the back office twice, she finally decided to swipe my credit card to see what the charge had been associated with. She then found the show but no admission of having been incorrect. Fascinating.
Overall, avoid the box office if you possibly can, but the performance space and the experience are unmissable.

“Iconic- Have to do once.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2013

This is quite an expensive outing for a family- but, of course, it's a must when one visits Sydney. The guided tours offer a lot of insights and the Stage Curtains in one of the main Concert Halls fascinated me as did the tortured story of the original Danish architect's involvement. This part was well-explained by the guide. The curtains were the best physical space I beheld. Food Courts there were fairly ho-hum in my opinion, though. It's no surprise that they were pricey, too.

“Magnificent and awe-inspiring”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2013

Close to forty years on, and the Opera House still manages to evoke awe and wonder. To see what must have then seemed to be a near impossibility, stand the test of time and remain true to its founding purpose, is both humbling and worthy of respect. Do not miss the short but fantastically trivia-packed guided tour (worth ever $ of the $30), and if possible catch a show. Just to be an audience in those hallowed chambers is worth the price of admission. This is art and engineering at its finest.

There's major construction going on in preparation for a more pedestrian-friendly atmosphere. So expect some boarded up areas. The management does try its best to minimise inconvenience.

“Magnificent architecture”

What an iconic place!!!! We took the tour and enjoyed hearing about the challenges of building it. We also attended a concert the same evening and could marvel at the design and acoustics of the concert hall.
