I cannot imagine anyone visiting Sydney and not touring the Opera House. This is a truly magnificent structure. The tour will take you inside under the famous arches of the roofline as well as a visit to two of the stages. It will also give you the hstory of the building and how it was designed and built. Facinating....

What you may not know is that it is almost impossible to walk into the opera house and get a ticket that day. I strongly suggest you reserve your tickets on line which you can do up to three months prior to your visit.

Be aware also that this tour involves walking up approximately 200 steps. Not all at one time, but unfortunately no handicap access available. It's definitely worth the effort.....

This amazing building is still an architectural marvel with its unique construction from the design by Jorn Utzon. Government interference in the construction has resulted compromises that have a relatively small stage in the Opera Theatre but the Concert Hall is large. There are several other performance spaces. While many performances in all venues can be heavily booked by subscribers, individual tickets can be bought on-line or at the Box Office. Tours of the venue can be made. Lots of restaurants and bars nearby. A good day's walk can be had by starting at the Opera House and continuing into the nearby Botanical Gardens and beyone to the Art Gallery and back into the CBD past St Mary's Cathedral and Hyde Park.

The opera house knocks me out every time I set eyes on it. It is a true wonder of the modern world. But do be prepared if you decide to go to an opera there! The prices are frighteningly high. The management allows latecomers to come in whenever they arrive so that the ushers' torches keep beaming out in a most distracting manner as the miscreants are shown to their seats. The audience shouts and stamps its feet loudly after every singer's performance so that the continuity of the work is interrupted. Members of the audience wave their arms in time to the music, drop things on the floor and are generally a good deal more casual than opera audiences in the UK. It's nice to see enthusiasm but not when it ruins one's involvement in the opera.

I recently went to the Opera House for the Just For Laughs festival and had a great time. The Opera House has a range of theatres ranging in size from the smaller Playhouse through to the Concert Hall, so all types of performances can be catered for.

I would recommend doing the tour to learn about the history and importance of this splendid architectural landmark

Enjoyed Aida in the Sydney Opera House after an afternoon bridge climb. What a day! To see the Opera House from above and appreciate the inside all in one day was wonderful. We had a fast and good meal on the lower level overlooking the water before the show and enjoyed the English subtitles to the Italian opera. A memorable experience.
