This is the location of where the first government house (1788) was located. When you walk in, they have a glass floor where you can see some of the earlier foundation of the house. The museum is quite small but it has a lot of good information. I liked how they presented what Australians ate throught the many decades plus they have a good interactive history of Sydney using maps and pictures. On the same floor, they have a viewing cube, which is great to take pictures of the exterior. Currently, they have a photo exhibit of suburbs of major cities around the world. Instead of taking the usual tourist pictures, the photographer and her daughter took pictures of lesser known neigborhoods. Very well done musuem!

The Museum of Sydney offers an excellent introduction to Sydney's 225-year history. Built on the site of Sydney's first Governor's House, the structure that houses the Museum is one of many examples of Sydney's distinctive sandstone architecture.

This is a great treasure of information situated on the location of the first Government House. No photography is allowed in the museum.

A small but unique history of early Sydney. Very interesting exhibits so allow at least 2 hours to see and read what is on offer. The diorama and narrative of the first Government House was particularly good as were the mock-ups of early kitchen and dining life of times gone by. If you are of mature age the latter displays brings back early memories which was a pleasant experience. Overall very well done and worthy of a visit.

Arrived as had wanted to book an architecture tour (which is run by an unaffiliated company) but instead decided to tour the museum. There are two tours daily including the one I went on at 2.30pm. The guide is knowledgeable and helpful in answering the questions that a person less well versed with Australian history may have. Currently has an exhibition on about the role of food in Australian life (from the first European settlers to Rose Seidlers house kitchen). Also a contemporary photo exhibition about the suburbs of Sydney and the world
