“Go see the Margaret Olley exhibition”
Reviewed March 22, 2013 via mobile

We went to the Museum of Sydney to see the Margaret Olley exhibition and it was well worth the trip. Her paintings are vibrant and interesting. The exhibition about her home is well thought out. We also enjoyed walking around the rest of the museum which is a great history of Sydney.

“Great introduction to Sydney”
Reviewed March 22, 2013

The MoS stands on the site of the first Government House. Walk in and you will get some great insight into Sydney pre-colonisation, the beginnings of the colony and its early settlers. There's always an exhibition of something contemporary too, along with the permanent exhibitions. It's a beautifully designed space and has a great feeling of calm. There's a good little museum shop and a great cafe too.

“A Great Insight Into Sydney's History”
Reviewed March 21, 2013

Specifically went to see the Maragret Olley exhibition which was terrific. For visitors - both international and local to Sydney - the Museum of Sydney is a lovely space. It gives a thorough insight into the area - pre-settlement and the struggles faced by both indigenous Australians and new Australians. Highly recommend.

“Great Start and Then…”
Reviewed March 20, 2013

it just kind of fizzles. When you walk in and start your way through the museum it seems as if it’s going to be a great museum. At the start, you get a great introduction to the beginnings of Sydney… and then about halfway through it just kind of fizzles. Reading the reviews, it looks as if the exhibits constantly change… which is probably nice for locals. However for folks visiting from out of town, it would have been nice if there was a bit more continuity to the excellent beginning of the museum so that we would understand more of Sydney’s very interesting history. For the money, we found the Powerhouse Museum to be much more interesting.

“Nice little museum - great for history buffs”
Reviewed March 14, 2013

Loved the model boats replicating the first armada from England to arrive in Australia! This is a small and very worthwhile museum - especially if you like history. There is a highlight exhibit of all the key people who shaped the City of Sydney. Doesn't take too long to see everything on display - it is a great stop on the way to the Botanical Garden.
