Well worth the climb and a lot of steps. Great view of the harbour.

Very interesting part of old Sydney. Full of history interesting displays still a working observatory.

Check out the ball on the roof still works at 1pm every day.

Wear comfy shoes.

We were SOOO happy with everything we saw in Sydney. The bridge and opera house were just “ jaw dropping “ in real life ( despite seeing them in many photographs over the years).
Think maybe we expected the same type of experience from the Observatory. It was smaller than expected and focused very much on the past.
Having said that, we visited The Griffiths Observatory In Los Angeles 2 years ago which was truly spectacular, so, sorry to say the Sydney Observatory could not hold a candle to the Griffiths but don,t let this review stop you from a visit.

The observatory was interesting, but I didn't realize until I got there that there are night tours and star viewing in the evenings. I had asked at a tourist office and they had said no.
Press for details, they definitely happen

The night tour is good fun. Spend some time testing your knowledge & learning about the sky above. Then head upstairs to peak through a telescope at our amazing universe. One of the most spectacular views of the harbour bridge & lunar park from the back courtyard.
