With its domed saloon regarded as the finest interior in Australian colonial architecture and its mysterious cellars, this beautiful Elizabeth Bay House is worth a visit.

“A Georgian Gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 27, 2013

I am not very mobile, but was able to walk down hill to it from Kings Cross and even able to get back up slowly!!. The walk is interesting as well which helps. The house is an absolute treasure. It is small Georgian Mansion at its finest. It is the sort of house you could imagine living in, unlike the enormous mansions generally found. Wonderful views to the front across to Elizabeth Bay. The interior colours are beautiful and the staircase and central atrium and dome is truly one of the most beautiful spaces of that type I have come across, and I have done a lot of house in UK and Europe. Everything is in scale and proportion. The Australian cedar timber door frames, doors and windows are a sight to behold, especially the curved door, look for it. Our Guide loved the place and was very knowledgeable and shared that willingly. Worth every bit of the walk. Don't miss it.

“Breathtaking!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 8, 2013

This attraction is a little bit out of the way and I'm not sure if you can get here using public transportation (we travelled by taxi), but the travel is definitely worth it! This place was breathtakingly beautiful and situated near the coast with some awesome views. Unfortunately, we arrived a little earlier than the guide, so she was only able to give us half a tour, but she was very friendly and informative. Excellent experience.

“A Gem with a brilliant guide”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 25, 2013

Sydney struggles with its history, especially the grander side. This house is a gem in a suburb which threatens to overwhelm it. Thankfully protected by the HHT but sadly only open a few days a week. Truly good architecture of the rich and powerful in the early 1800s beautifully presented. Excellent volunteer guide and super staff.

“Elizabeth bay house”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 29, 2013

Last week- end we took a trip back in time a tour of this lovely old Sydney home
Entrance fee is $8 per person Pensioners and concession price was $4 this also included an interesting tour of the house which I would advise you take as the guide was full of information about every part of the house making it much more interesting than just walking around on your own
There is also a movie shown down in the old cellar explaining the history of the house
Sadly the kitchen wing was no more it was a 2 story service wing at the rear of the house which was demolished
WE visited the maids quarters, the cellars, Attic, Ground floor, and first
I love visiting old houses and this is one of the delightful ones in Sydney
Biggest problem here is the parking which is almost impossible to find the house is Open Friday-Sunday 11AM - 4PM located at 7 Onslow Avenue Elizabeth Bay T 02 9363022
The only outside sitting is on the front veranda 2 seats to sit on while waiting for it to open or just to rest on
Elizabeth Bay house is well worth a visit
