“Afternoon of art”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

My partner and I do not usually go to museums or art galleries whilst on holiday but we had some time to kill one afternoon and what a lovely treat - the gallery is free and has a varied and large collection to suit all tastes!

“Don't pass this by!”
Reviewed October 27, 2012

This is a beautiful, airy, roomy gallery with stunning views out over Wooloomooloo. Its collection is enthralling, with European, White and Aboriginal Australian work all well hung and displayed. I am always fascinated by the light the paintings shed on the history of the early settlers, and by the depictions of native flora and fauna. The gallery is right opposite the gate to the Botanic gardens so if you travel by train to St James you can walk down through the Domain, look round the gallery, walk through the Botanic Gardens and come out to the Opera House and Circular Quay. It's a very satisfying way to spend a day, or half a day if your time is limited. There is no admission fee either to the gallery or the gardens.

“Art that's accessible to all”
Reviewed October 22, 2012

Apart from its superb collection of Old - and new - Masters, the setting is superb. The green swards of Sydney Domain on one side, and the expanses of Sydney Harbour on the other. The coffee shop and restaurant should NOT be missed for their views as much as for their fare.
