We stayed at the Travelodge in Sydney as the last point on our tour of Oz. It was ok, the beds were comfortable and seemed clean, the bathroom worked and was large enough. The room itself was the smallest on our tour but we did have a nice view of the city from our 16th floor window.
Reception was ok, nothing special and when we asked for some information on where the restuarants were she sent us down Oxford Street. Which was mainly gay bars, not sure why she sent us down there. It was an ok hotel nothing special but equally nothing wrong.
It was really close to Hyde Park and about half an hour walk to the Opera House or 15 minutes to the harbour resturants, so location was pretty central. Once we got our bearings we found getting around really easy.
Sydney is a lovely place, warm and friendly with lots to do. Must do the Gardens, Opera House, Aquirium and if you like a drink try the Hunter Valley wine tours. The tour operators are on Pier 26 at the Harbour and easy to do business with, if you are going later in the year or Spring then leave it until the day before and you can get a deal rather than pay full price.
We couldn't get to see anything in the opera house but if you go to Star city they have two theaters and generally tickets available. We didn't do the harbour bridge walk as it was 3.5 hours and £90 each but looked interesting, we went up the sky tower instead which is higher than the bridge and gives wonderfull 360 degree views over the city.
