We stayed at the Travelodge for Mardi Gras 2011 in Sydney. It's a clean, functional budget hotel with friendly and knowledgeable staff. Our first room looked out towards Elizabeth St, which was so noisy that I couldn't sleep (even though we were on the top floor). We then changed to a room overlooking the inner courtyard, which was very quiet. Rooms are quite spacious and have everything you need. Not a luxury hotel by any means but good, reasonably priced accommodation.

Comfortable room in an ideal central location within easy walking distance of all the sights. We didn't use the restaurant but there were lots of cafes close by serving great coffee and croissants.

There was reasonable food available on site. Staff were helpful, organised airport transfer. Train station & bus stops very close although it was walkable to Circular Quay. Would recommend weekly ticket for ferrys, buses & trains.

I chose this hotel for one night only as it was the closest location to a function I was attending. I booked through wotif.com and was surprised at the mid-week price which was more than I've previously paid for top class 5 star hotels in the central city.
The staff were pleasant and helpful but i found the room to be dreadful. My first warning all may not have been well was the strong smell of air freshener in the room - of the type used by cheap hotels/motels to attempt to overpower less than pleasant smells but didn't quite succeed - would rather have been able to open a window for fresh air.
There was a small kitchen which, thankfully, I didn't need to use. The only item from the kitchen I tried to use was a drinking glass which had been returned to the cupboard without being washed as it still contained the dregs of something unidentifiable - doesn't housekeeping check these things?!
Internet was an additional cost of an outrageously overpriced amount.

This was our first-ever trip to Sydney. We stayed three nights at the Travelodge Phillips Street prior to a cruise, and were pleasantly surprised as it was great value for the money. The staff was excellent; the room was smaller, but very clean and it had a mini frig and microwave along with dishes and cutlery; and the downtown location was within easy walking distance of the Parliament House and the Botannical Garden and even the Opera House for the more adventureous walkers. This hotel is owned by the NSW Leagues Rugby Club, and the first four floors are used for the offices and club lounge and casino, but noise was never an issue as the patrons never get rowdy. In Australia, these private clubs are places where husbands take their wives for a nice meal and evening out without having to mortgage their homes. As a hotel guest, you get to use the facilties, which include a Bistro, a couple of bars and casino with slots. Drinks are discounted and we enjoyed two excellent dinners in the Bistro for about $15 each which was about half the charge of a downtown restaurant. Breakfasts in the Bistro were quite expensive, so we simply went elsewhere or had cereal in our room.

Sydney itself is an excellent city to visit, and we would recommend that you take the two-part double decker bus tour to get an overview of the city. It was a very positive experience, but this hotel would not appeal to patrons who have only the very highest 5-star expectations and who have the financial resources to pay for them. For the rest of us ordinary folk, it was a great choice.

Being a teenager traveling solo, I didn't want to stay too far away from the main attractions, but still had to find somewhere fairly affordable. I stayed here for just one night, and found the room and bathroom quite simple but nicely organised and clean. The room did seem slightly small when I first walked in, and if I had lots of luggage I'd struggle for space. The hotel is near Martin Place, mainly a business district, so the view out of my window was nice too (tall buildings and the like). Market Street, Darling Harbour, Circular Quay, The Opera House and the Botanic Gardens are all within walking distance, so that was really good for me. The Monorail is also nearby, being the City Centre stop, as well as the train station outside of Hyde Park (barely a 5 minute walk). My stay at Travelodge Phillip Street was enjoyable, and even though it cost a little more than what I would usually pay, I think it was mostly worth the money :)

We stayed for three nights here and couldn't really fault it. The hotel itself is located on the 5th+ floors of the NSW Leagues Club and you can use the club facilities (bar etc) whilst there. We didnt take up this offer though as we went out most of the time. The rooms were a decent size and our room was a twin with two double beds. The bathroom was also a decent size with a large walk in shower. We also had a small kitchenette and modern furnishings and 32' flat screen tv. The decor has been refurbished and it feels quite modern so was really a great room for the price. I can recommend if you want to be in the centre of the city as its at the top of Hyde Park and close to the main shopping area plus a short walk to Martin Pl Station or St James Station. We will most likely stay there next time we are in Sydney - recommended.
