“Excellent business hotel, between shopping and harbors”
Reviewed April 23, 2009

The Westin Sydney is a very nice business hotel located in the CBD (Central Business District) of Sydney. As such, it is not in the heart of the tourist attractions on the Circular Quay or along Darling Harbor, but it is about a six block walk to either harbor, and just a couple of blocks to a number of shops. The hotel was built atop the old Sydney Post Office, and has a sunny atrium in the post office space.

The rooms are very nice. They feature a full wall of plate glass between the bathroom and the room, which sets them apart! (There is a power shade to cover the window.)
Our room overlooked Martin Place, vaguely towards the harbor and Circular Quay, but there are a lot of tall buildings between the Westin and the harbors, so I would call it a "city view." The room was very clean and light and comfortable.

The gym is not owned by Westin, but is in the adjoining building, and has somewhat limited hours. It is also necessary to either bring a towel from your room or rent a towel there. The business center is accessible by key 24/7 and has a number of computers and free internet access. The breakfast buffet was very good. Afternoon tea is offered in the lobby, but only by reservation. The restaurant overlooks the atrium, and at busy times, tables are set up on walkways over the atrium.

I recommend this hotel if you don't mind walking to the harbor.

This is how you would expect a Westin hotel would be: large, modern, clean and luxurious. You experience this from the moment you walk into the hotel, right through to when you walk into your room. The hotel is set inside a heritage building, so the facade looks very impressive.

The rooms are well furnished and they are very spacious. You will easily feel at home. There is adequate wardrobe space in case you don't travel light. Comfortable chairs and sofas add to the homely feel. When you walk into the bathroom, you immediately get the feeling of space. A separate shower, bathtub and toilet gives you an indication of how large it is inside. If you please, you can also watch the TV whilst in the bathtub through the glass wall. Bathrobe and slippers are also provided in the room to make you feel even more comfortable.

The hotel's location is also worth noting. Being right there at Martin Place, a couple of minutes from Pitt St Mall and easy walking distance to Circular Quay and Queen Victoria Building.

This place is ideal for tourists and even business travellers looking for a central location. If you got the extra cash, I would thoroughly recommend spending it here.

We stayed in the Westin for two nights over the Easter Weekend '09 and had a brilliant stay. The decor and service are second to none and the location on Martin Place has to be one of the best in Sydney: close enough to Circular Quay, the QVB and Darling Harbour for all tastes. The staff were very attentive and took great care of us from check-in until the moment we left. We would happily return to the Westin if we visit Sydney again.

What a great product, perfect location, but service was terrible. If i was paying for a 3.5 - 4 star product maybe this kind of service would be ok but when you do pay for a 5 star product you expect 5 star service. We just left our car in the driveway and carried our own luggugage in. When you pay $50.00 a night carparking you would expect someone there to assist you with you car to be parked and offer you help with your lugguge. We waited there and ended up giving the keys to reception. What a pitty. Everything else was great. Nice breakfast range.

Magnificent hotel with very comfortable rooms with modern design.
Can't find a better location in the Business District, a few minutes walk to Circular Quay.
Breakfast is amazing with a wide range of choices and high quality ingredients.
Also plenty of good restaurants in hotel lobby (sushi place is great).

The only issue I had was that the absence of wi-fi internet in rooms, only cable. And the cost is $AUS 25 per day which is a ripp-off. Free wi-fi is what a customer should expect from a hotel as this one.

Staff was also not always welcoming and helpful. Could be a bit rude sometimes.
