“Best Value on The Rocks”
Reviewed October 28, 2006

Not sure what hotel some of the reviewers stayed in but after three stays we think this is best value in Sydney. Location could not be better. A bright sparkling clean room with a kitchenette and a small balcony with a view that includes the bridge AND the Opera House!
For many multiples more money you could stay at Four Seasons or Westin and have comparable views and an equal location but why spend the money! Our only disappointment was that during our first 2 stays breakfast was included .. now it is a high priced add on. Try the small bakery a short walk down the stairs to the next lower street.

Stayed in this hotel for three nights. The studio room was clean and well furnished and the staff helpful at all times. Continental breakfast was perfectly adequate to start the day.
The location was perfect, being just a short walk to Circular Quay, the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House. Darling Harbour was also within walking distance but public transport (bus or ferry) was excellent should you rather not walk.
We did the Harbour Bridge Climb which was a fantastic experience. The professionalism and safety aspects were second to none and the climb was not as arduous as I first thought.
Also visited Taronga Zoo which afforded a different perspective of the harbour, and took the Bondi Explorer bus for a trip around the city which I recommend. The beach at Bondi is okay but the surrounding shops and accommodation made it look like a shanty town and it was frankly very disappointing.
Excellent food at the Opera Bar on the lower concourse of the Opera House but in truth there are so many eateries to choose from.
We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay in this fantastic city and recommend the Rendezvous Stafford.

We Stayed at the Rendevous Hotel on the night of the 7th of October 2006 to celebrate our 10th Wedding Anniversary. We purchased a "Romantic" Package which included amongst other things a 'Room with a View' . The Hotel is on the smaller size about 61 rooms and is in a really great position in the Rocks, with its own security parking below the hotel. The room itself was a reasonable size (we were on the 5th floor), clean and tidy, with its own basic kitchenette, microwave and fridge. Our room had a small balcony acessed by sliding doors with a table and chairs. The view is unbeatable for the price with great views from the Opera House all the way around to the Harbour Bridge, we could even see the bridge climbers. The room overall was comfortable and had everything that we needed (comfortable bed and a shower with heaps of pressure). Complimentary Tea and Coffee are included. Bathrooms are basic. Breakfast is next to the pool and is a basic continental but fine. I would recommend booking a room with a view as without the view its just another hotel room.
All in all we had a great time and would recommend this hotel to friends, however it is just across the road from the police station and can be noisy especially on saturday nights.

  • Liked — Great View and Clean Comfortable room
  • Disliked — Some noise on weekends
  • Tips/Secrets — BOOK A ROOM WITH A VIEW, its worth the extra

We wanted a hotel close to the Rocks as we were climbing the bridge on our last night in Sydney, but we didn't want to be in the middle of the noise and nightlife, so we chose this one.

It was fine, quiet and convenient, but our room was dark and dingey and somehow prison cell like as a result. We had a little kitchenette and a very utilitarian grey bathroom. It really wasn't a room you were going to spend any time in,which suited us fine but at the price, seemed more than a bit of a rip off.

The reception staff spoke very poor English and were not especially helpful. We asked to borrow a plug adaptor, and had to pay a 20 dollar deposit! Please!

All in all, fine, and suited our purposes, but nothing great and definitely overpriced.

  • Liked — Very convenient for bridgeclimb
  • Disliked — Nasty dark depressing room
  • Tips/Secrets — Bring your own plug adaptor if not Australian as leaving a deposit for same is annoying

We stayed for five nights (20-25 August), prepaid through wotif at 165 AUD which included breakfast and a bottle of wine and paid an additional 50 AUD per night for the sofabed -- excellent value for a five star location. This was a repeat visit (after January) and we opted again for this place because of the proximity to Circular Quay -- great for hopping on ferries or trains and wonderful for just hanging out, watching the boats. Excellent place also for our four year old -- we made daily use of the hot tub (the pool was a bit too chilly for a small child -- it is winter after all). On arrival we found out that we also got a huge balcony (about 4 by 3 m) with fantastic views of the Harbour Bridge. The room included a full kitchen and was very spacious indeed. The decor is basic but adequate, the bathroom functional, shower worked really well. Reception is also basic -- not particularly friendly or present, but ok. We would definitely stay here again.

Our plane landed early in Sydney and we arrived at the Rendezvous about 8:30 am. Our room wasn't ready but the previous guest had checked out so the front desk asked that our room be cleaned immediately so it would be ready with in the hour. We dropped off our luggage and went down the street for a wonderful breakfast . Came back in an hour and our room was ready!! We had room 511 which had a great view of the harbour and Opera House. It also had a full kitchen, was spacious and very comfortable.

The area was perfect! It reminded me of Europe. Small cafes everywhere, and wonderful shops to browse and shop in . We were only a block away from Circular Quay!
We were able to walk or catch the ferry to any where we wanted to go. We didn't rent a car as we were a bit intimidated about driving on the "other side" of the road. But it really wasn't needed. We were only in Sydney for 3 days, before we headed up north to Cairns, wish we had more time to spend . There were so many more things we could have done.

We enjoyed the Zoo, and the Aquarium , like all good tourists! We also walked to the botanical gardens and while we were at the Aquarium we enjoyed Darling Harbour and the Sydney fish market. It's a pleasant walk from the Aquarium to the fish market. It's great fun to go there for lunch, fresh seafood galore!

We'd definitely stay here again the next time we head to Sydney. The area can't be beat and the hotel itself was wonderful!!

Highly recommended!

We have just returned from 4 night stay in Sydney at the Rendezvous. We had put in a request for an early check in as we were to attend a wedding at lunchtime. We didn't hold out much hope but had hoped to be able to dump our luggage and perhaps freshen up. We were very surprised that our room on the 4th floor was ready for us to occupy - some 4 hours early. Good start! Although our balcony was tiny with just enough room to stand, it did offer us glimpses of the Opera House and Sydney Harbour which was a plus. We had a studio apartment with queen size bed which was great and our daughter slept soundly on the sofa bed. The apartment was very spacious with full kitchen facilities. I've seen better bathrooms but it did supply hairdryer. The pool was rather small but there was a spa and sauna too. The staff was fine and the free continental breakfast adequate. If you need a full breakfast, the Lowenbrau Beer Keller is just down the road and serves full breakfast all day. The hotel is positioned so close to everything The Rocks has to offer with Circular Quay just short walk away. Wynyard Station an easy 10 min walk. Other guests attending the wedding also stayed here and we didn't hear any complaints at all, even though the hotel was fully booked for most of our stay. We would definitely stay here again and found the rates to be very reasonable compared to some of the surrounding hotels.
