“A relaxing stay in a busy city”
Reviewed March 15, 2010

The Observatory is a well known hotel in Sydney for its day spa. I went with my girlfriends and we ate at the restaurant and went to the spa. You can do high tea there too and also have it in the day spa. For a massage you will pay $165+ for 60 mins.
We actually had upset tummies the next morning after the restaurant.

The spa can get very busy on the weekends and sometimes there are no loungers available and you are forced to put your robe etc on stone benches. Not very relaxing. You can drink champagne but they ran out of plastic glasses so we had to sit on upright chairs in the dry area. Not too fun. The changing rooms are very small and people leave their rubbish and when it is busy staff get bogged down and dont clean the changing rooms.

The sauna and steam room are single sex. The jacuzzi is in the swimming pool area. We thought staff should approach couples who are making it uncomfortable for other people and also set rules for the spa.

The swimming pool is lovely. The lights on the ceiling are like looking at the galaxy.
The rooms were fantastic but the walls are thin. we could here the men next door talking all night. The bathroom is deluxe.

I stayed at the Observatory for my wedding. The night before with my bridesmaids and the wedding night with my groom. We all got ready the morning of the wedding in the suite, and the manager opened up an adjoining room so we could have a separate wing for hair and a wing for make-up! Nothing was too much trouble, we were able to order breakfast from the resturant and have it brought to our room (rather than room service menu), everyone had a blissful spa treatment, they helped us with cards to write the speeces on and after the wedding, I came back with my husband and the room was immaculate again and covered in rose petals. I was floored by the level of service and genuine enthusiam of staff. I wouldn't stay anywhere else for such an important occasion.

I travel allot. This could be the BEST HOTEL I have ever had the pleasure of staying.

It is not only beautiful with a great indoor pool, tennis courts and spa,it's the people within this facility that make it special. From the time you enter its front doors a very friendly feel hits you. It isn't uppity and fake like so many Five Star hotels.

The standard rooms are large, well done with a touch of elegance. Value for money cannot be found anywhere in the world like the Observatory.

I was so taken by the property I asked to see the Managing Director. His name is Patrick Griffin. After our talk I understood why the hotel operates the way it does. The man was gracious, proud, funny and humble. It all starts at the TOP does it not?

The wait staff at breakfast caused me to start my day in a great mood. You need to experience Ernesto to understand what I am saying. The food is Marvelous.

If you are looking for something special this is your HOME away from HOME!!!!!!!!

The hotel staff were attentive not in your face and the hotel is quiet and well appointed, its a classic.
Its warm ,its friendly and as a hotel should be, not over modernized.
I really enjoyed staying at the Observatory Hotel.

We can not say enough about the staff and their assistance in every aspect of our stay. We traveled over 20 hours and arrived early so our room was not quite ready. The hotel offered to allow us use of the Spa/Pool/Shower area and kept our luggage so we could go out and about until our room was ready. Our room was very spacious and the bathroom was absolutely fantastic. The balcony was very nice to be able to sit outside and view the park or traffic or just the sky in the morning or evening. If there was any down side to the hotel it was that the room smelt a little stale and maybe it was just that the carpet may need to be replaced. The only other thing we found to be a little disappointing was that for the price of staying at this hotel it really did not offer much for complimentary food or drink even water was quite pricing. We would have loved to have ate at the hotel but found that the selections were very limited and very pricing. There really wasn't much for close by places to eat at either. I would give this hotel 4 stars but not 5.

From the moment we arrived until the moment we left, we felt totally at home. Our room was perfect, the bathroom spacious and the staff welcoming and extremely helpful. The hotel itself had a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, whilest retaining all the five star touches.

From last-minute opera tickets to a repairing the wheel on one of our suitcases, nothing was too much trouble - and everything was done with a smile.

I can't recommend the Hotel too highly - we will definitely be back.

Stayed there for a weekend while our toddler was being babysat by the grandparentals; this was the perfect place. Check in and other dealings with the staff were smooth and pleasant, the reception staff offered us the concession rate for breakfast which was very reasonable (about $20); we had a late supper at the bar which was great - bartender was friendly, drinks were good and food was hot. This is not the most modern place in Sydney, however I believe the service makes up for it and it has the bones of a real luxury hotel, while not taking itself overly seriously. I would recommend the Obs over some of the newer so-called 5 star hotels. It also has a beautiful spa and pool area that we checked out. I haven't checked out Galileo Restaurant yet but my brother in law says it has great food at good prices, and am keen to check it out.
