From the moment you arrive till the minute you leave, you will love the luxury and elegance of the Langham. The Langham itself is beautiful, very elegant, stylish and beautiful. On entering there is a beautiful scent of fresh flowers, and the surroundings are beautiful, plenty of places to sit and enjoy the peace and quiet. The staff are just lovely, they are so genuine and caring, so very willing to do anything to make sure your stay is everything you want, and they genuinely seemed intent on making sure your stay is fantastic. We have stayed in other Sydney hotels, of lesser rating, where staff have been quite aloof and condescending, intimidating even, so it was extremely refreshing to stay somewhere where you were made to feel welcome and at home. Our room was huge, again, very luxurious and beautiful. The bed is huge and so very, very comfortable. The bathroom is gorgeous, loved the bath and there were even bath salts to use. Breakfast was lovely, quiet and peaceful, great food and coffee, wonderful service, and able to linger as long as you like.The hotel is beautiful, serene and luxurious, and the lovely, attentive staff complement it so well. The price was not that much different than other Sydney hotels we have stayed at, but the difference in the experience we had was massive. We will definitely be returning again and we would recommend everyone stay at the Langham, you will not be disappointed.

From the moment you arrive it is like coming home, a warm welcome that makes you feel at ease and everything is OK no matter what. We were looked after by staff who really wanted to be of service and help. The check in easy and a surprise upgrade, the beautiful room, cleanliness, facilities, what a treat, I have recommend to many family and friends already and can't wait till we stay again. Thank you

The Langham is simply a superb hotel. The staff are wonderful, the location superb and the building itself has a unique charm. It's an older building and has some signs of wear but that's probably part of the charm.

We loved our stay here. The hotel staff were extremely accommodating when they moved us from a smoking to a non-smoking room. The pool was very relaxing even though it was indoors the water was the perfect temperature. The rooms are very large and comfortable. Even though there is no view of the opera house or bridge, like some other hotels in Sydney, I would stay here over the four seasons(which we did stay in for 2 nights as well). The only negative was the breakfast. It was expensive and the buffet was lacking selection.

I stayed here for a couple of nights for the first time and must say for an older hotel I quite enjoyed it. It's located just behind the Rocks and my room had a nice view over the Darling Harbour side of the city.

Likes
- Fantastic staff who were friendly and helpful without exception. I find Australian hotels tend to have fairly average service so this is something truly unique.
- Huge room and bathroom.
- Hotel is a nice short walk away from the Rocks and there's a park across the road if you need some outdoor space
- Beautiful indoor pool
- The gym while small has an excellent range of free weights
- My room had a small balcony

Dislikes
- The hotel has been well looked after but is beginning to show it's age in places and is in need of a renovation (which I understand is upcoming). I can't remember the last time I saw a VCR but there was one in my room!

Overall with a bit of a makeover this hotel will be a place to remember and I can't make to come back when it's done.

I have stayed at almost all the 5 star hotels in Sydney over the years but nothing comes close to the relaxed elegance and charm of the Langham. From the moment I walked in the door I was conscious of a delicate fresh scent, the softness of the lighting and the elegant comfort of classic furnishings, which make you feel as though you are both at home and somewhere special. The service was professional and clearly the staff take great pride in this professionalism. After a long day I walked into my room to find a proper turn down including soft slippers at the foot of the bed and a spacious and softly lit welcoming room. I had to go out but I did not want to leave. And it was peaceful, which is quite an achievement in the Rocks. I woke early to take a swim in the beautiful pool then headed for breakfast. It was such a civilised breakfast, busy but hushed, delicious fresh fruit, gluten free possibilities and the ambience of a intimate European hotel frequented by regular visitors. Overall, it felt like a superbly run hotel focused on old school service. I have never written a review before but felt moved to this time because the experience was way above expectation.

Room Tip: I had a basic room but it still impressed. I was in room 123.

We booked the Observatory Hotel (now the Langham) over the internet almost 12 months prior to our holiday including the pick-up from the airport. The driver was there to greet us and was very friendly and reliable.

On arrival at the hotel, (early in the morning, about 7:00 am, after flying from London via Singapore without a break), we were so happy that we were able to check straight into our room. This had been arranged by booking the room for the Sunday night and ensuring that the hotel knew we would be arriving late (Monday morning). (This may sound simple, but the last time we stayed at the Shangri-La, Sydney with the same arrangements, but they were told by our travel agents that we would be arriving early (i.e. early in the morning) and the hotel had us as a no-show for the first night, even though we had paid for the room, and we could not check-in on our arrival!)

Reception staff were very courteous and helpful, our luggage was brought up to the room very quickly and the room was beautiful. We had a basic room and were placed at the front of the hotel. This is not a huge high rise building, just three stories in height, so the view from our room was nothing to write home about but we had a little balcony that enabled us to sit out in the evening and watch the world go by in this fairly quiet area of The Rocks.

Fabulous huge bathroom with separate shower and bath and a well fitted bedroom with loads of room. We only had one comfy chair but we had two high back chairs that we could take out onto the balcony.

The concierge was very helpful recommending restaurants and showing us the route to walk for our excursion pick-up etc.

The friendliness, olde world charm, smallness and service excelled our expectations and this is certainly the best hotel we have stayed at in Sydney after three visits.
