We stayed in a two bedroom apartment which was excellent.
It was clean and spacious. Two bathrooms with robes and a large balcony.
We arrived early in the morning and were able to check in immediately. We booked via wot if.We had room service one night which to our surprise was not overpriced and come in a timely fashion on a trolley and beautifully presented.
The food court is great and alcohol can be purchased separately which makes it less costly. We stayed for a show at the Lyric theatre so nice to walk to show and catch the elevator back home.
The only tiny complaint was the ordered newspaper did not arrive.

Room Tip: Pay extra for the harbour view if you are staying several days.

We had 3 nights stay here and really enjoyed it. Room was clean and well equiped.

We had our three year old with us so didn't actually venture in to the casino at all. We ate in the food court one night which had a good selection and was very popular. Took some macarons from Zumbo back to our room for dessert.
I was initially worried about the location but the walk to Darling Harbour (with our child in a stroller) was easily done. In fact we walked from Darling Harbour around to Circular Quay and back to The Star via the QVB.

We didn't use the kitchen in our accom (that's no holiday for me!) and had bfast each morning at Antidote which is located on the ground floor. Fantastic Bircher Muesli - get there early for that if its a weekday. We had a F&B credit with our room rate, so we were able to charge our bfast back to the room and essentially got it for free.

There is a great Indian restaurant nearby in Harris Street called Bombay2Mumbai. Delicious food.

We stayed at the Astral apartments Christmas Ve and Christmas Day as we have done for the past 3 years. Unfortunately we experienced several concerns relating to our room on Christmas Eve My wife's mother (90) was staying with us so we wanted to give her a nice stay. I contacted reception to express my disappointment as the room did not deliver for the price paid. I outlined my 3 problems to the reception and the lady said she would attend immediately. Within a few min management ( Matthew Kennedy) was on the hone and expressed sincere apologies. After listening he set about rectifying the problems (Christmas Eve) and therefor delivered great customer satisfaction. We recommend this property for a great stay and most certainly customer satisfaction. A week later senior management wrote to me and again expressed apologies. This shows that the matter was referred higher and not hidden by junior staff. Well done to Star and all management. Peter Kxxxxt>

We had to stay here as part of a 'Lion King' package deal with WOTIF. The deal gave us 2 hotel rooms and a 2b/r apartment (only accommodates 3 people). The decor is very tired from lifts all the way into the rooms. Beds are slightly on the hard side and the pillows are really high and hard. The Astral is not suitable for children because it is so Casino orientated (thanks WOTIF), and it appears The Star, Astral Tower and the Astral apartment residences all have to share the one small pool facility. Yes they charge your credit card $100 on arrival, but this was reversed within 48 hours of checking out. My advice is get out of the building and walk the 8 mins to Darling Harbour for breakfast or dinner. Prices there are more reasonable with a great scenery/atmosphere. I'm sure I can do better at other hotels nearby.

I have stayed here a few times & the rooms are modern, clean & tidy but each time I have stood at check in for 20-30 minutes. There is always a line of people and only two people checking in. Upon check in this time we were staying for business reasons and the company we worked for paid for the stay. We just paid for any extras. This was clear at check in and even when I checked out I signed for a few mini bar items and paid for it with my credit card. One week later I see a charge of $480 on my card from the hotel. Upon ringing them she told me I needed to get a letter from my work stating they were paying for the bill. What??? Firstly this is so annoying as it was clear at check in that the room was covered and secondly the real reason I was angry was they charged my card without asking or getting authority. They just took it upon themselves to charge my card which they tell me is on file .. Also not allowed . I'm a travel agent so I'm charging people's credit cards all day but it's illegal to charge a card without authority . The lady on the phone didn't even care so I hung up in disgust and wrote this review! I notice that other people have also has this problem... Very very dodgie!!

Check in took 45 mins. Tired after flight. Porter lingered for tip!! Woke up next morning...no paper aspromised. However all chinese guests recd one,. For over $320 per night expected good service etc. Had room service... $26 for a toasted smoked salmon sandwich. Ignored next morning at reception. Ended up with guests at the upmarket Italian restaurant. Made booking earlier..had to share table. Only two Australian wines on offer from the ipad offered.Checkout only took 20 mins. This is the first and last time I will go near this establishment.

Room Tip: No idea. I overlooked Pyrmont shacks.

At best this is 4 star but only if if it had more work done in relation to the rooms and staff attitude and their training
There were loads of mistakes and the rooms had lots of irritating problems - tv not working, door did not lock, wrong room allocated for us, forgot to clean our room etc etc

In our opinion this is not a hotel suitable for families. We saw groups of guys walking around with outside bought alcohol and they were quite rowdy. We walked through the casino part to get outside and there was a huge fight - it was dealt with promptly but a bit disconcerting
It felt a bit tense at times - bouncers everywhere. who were watchful
I think this place should either concentrate on the casino side or hotel - not sure they do the hotel bit well at all and were very ambivalent at times and often unhelpful

Positives nice pool
pleasant concierge - sometimes did get the info wrong but this is this hotel
nice helpful duty manager on the sunday nite (who was from another hotel! only helping out) the others were ineffectual I am afraid
