Seasons Darling Harbour
Ranked #156 of 179 Hotels in Sydney
Reviewed May 2, 2011

We were driven to this hotel in a local limosine from the airport about 20 minutes. It is northwest in Sydney and located about four blocks from stores etc. in the city between Chinatown and Darling Harbour. The hotel was average in looks and upkeep. The rooms were older but well kept. We had everything we needed with a small refrig and microwave, dishes, coffee etc. The great thing about this hotel were the reception and staff people. They were friendly and helpful. My luggage had not arrived and they gave suggestions of where to shop that fit my budget and needs. The pool area was great with a view of the gardens below.

Stayed here on a 3 night package.

Good points: Great location, close to Chinatown, Darling Harbour and George St venues, reasonable walking distance from Central Station. The room is like a serviced apartment, with separate bedroom, kitchenette, 2 TVs. Despite the Monorail directly outside, and a lift next door, the room was quiet. Staff were helpful, and the price reasonable for a stay in Sydney CBD ($95-125). Lots of good eating places nearby.

Things that could be better: The booking site praised the Cloud 9 bed, but I found it to be very uncomfortale - think trying to sleep on a layer of jelly and waking up in the middle of the bed with a backache.

Other suggestions: a small frypan would be helpful for the kitchen utensils. I also thought it odd that there was no dishwashing detergent - makes me wonder about the cleanliness of the crockery!

Verdict: A good place to stay for the price. Because of the uncomfortable bed though, I'd think twice before staying more than one or two nights.

Thank you for your review and your feedback.
We welcome all comments including suggestions, refurbishment points, amenities, critical comments and of praise, with the latter being of particular great morale booster for our dedicated, tireless staff.

Seasons Darling Harbour is an evolving boutique Hotel where we thrive off suggestions and interaction. So much so, we have interactive feedback forms where suggestions such as wine & cheese tasting nights, coffee nights and movie nights have been suggested to us to bring into fruition.
This is your accommodation experience after all...

Regarding the uncomfortable bed issue, we are confident that have respectfully restored the proud name that the Cloud 9 bed is renowned for. It is again now, a 5 star sleep at 4 star prices! A thousand apologies for not experiencing this on your stay...

New stainless steel crockery and cutlery is all part and parcel of the refurbishment which is ever so close to completion.
We are a Green Hotel therefore some dishwashers may not be in some rooms and everything is hand washed by our housekeeping team in an effort to minimise water and electricity use.

Once again, we thank you for your invaluable feedback and hopefully we may see at Seasons Darling Harbour again.

My partner and I wanted to spend a weekend night out at the city without having to spend a lot on unwanted luxuries such as concierge and valet parking.

The Seasons Hotel in Darling Harbour is definitely a hotel to consider.

When making accomodation enquiries, two (2) reservation officers by the name of Melissa and Walter assisted in making the night enjoyable by providing fast and prompt replies in their emails, granting my request to have a hotel room on the top floor and by providing a complimentary late check out which they've done in their own initiative to which I am very grateful for.

The check-in procedures and transaction was very effective and smooth and by no time we were in our serviced apartment room.

The room is pleasantly clean and the bathroom is of excellent condition.

The only con/s I would have to note is the long trek to the Gym and Swim facilities.
It is not within their control however.

Great location as it is near the bustling centre of Chinatown, near the main streets of Sydney that provide entertainment and the room was soundproof to ensure a good nights sleep.

The bed is really comfortable I must add which resulted myself and my partner in waking up later than usual as we regularly made excuses to sleep in.

My partner and i checked in on Australia Day and were staying for 4 nights. The room featured a separate bedroom and small living space with foldout sofa bed. Given Aust Day was very hot, we spent the afternoon on the rooftop pool which was a bit of a convoluted trek as the lifts were not fast or regular but still a great addition when staying at a hotel in Summer. Great location across the road from Chinatown and the monorail station which made it easy to get around.
The shower/bath had a curtain and as I'm a germaphobe it didn't appeal and didn't drain as quickly as expected but it was ok. Toilet and vanity were very clean. I agree with most reviews when it says the hotel needs a little refurb but it wasn't bad and the pricing we got was quite reasonable. Especially for a room that has a bedroom that can be closed off. On the last night we stayed my brother and his partner came into town to go out to dinner and stayed on the foldout sofa bed, obviously not that comfy but that is to be expected from a sofa bed! I thought being able to fit 4 adults was great value and it meant they didn't need to pay for a cab 30 minutes outside of the city.
Pros: Rooftop Pool, reliable aircon, very comfortable Queen bed with crisp clean linen, clean bathroom, fridge, location, good value for a few people
Cons: Big hotel so you could be waiting a few minutes for the lift, shower curtain with a little bit of mould, expensive carparking options (better to park on the street!).

I stayed at Seasons Darling Harbour, for 2 nights whilst on business. The hotel is located in a great area, Chinatown, with the main CBD walking distance away i was able to get around by foot.

I found all the staff to be very friendly and helpful, the rooms whilst in definate need a of face lift were adequate in size, amenities and comfort. A staff member did mention to me that the hotel would be going through a refurbishment soon.

If i really had to pick at things the lobby area is quite small and the gym / pool is shared by an adjoining complex and does take about 5 minutes to get to but that didn't really bother me.

Very dated and the room needed a really good clean. When we stepped out of the lift someone had been sick just outside our door so was not impressed. Another guest had stuck their chewing gum behind the cushion on the sofa, the kitchen area was very grotty and the crockery and cutlery were very badly stained and could not be used. The location is good but that's about all - would not stay there again.

Location: The location isn't bad. It's quite close to Darling Harbour if you walk past the Convention Center and the Chinese Gardens. Right next to Chinatown. This hotel was more like Seasons Chinatown than Seasons Darling Harbour to me.

Room: Peeling paint, in dire need of a paint job. The so-called 'Cloud 9' bed is a lie, try renaming it 'the Hammock'. You get into bed, and roll straight into the middle. There's a kitchenette, but when I opened the drawers, ooof-you get extras- little cockroaches roaming all over the pots and pans. These friendly little critters are also found roaming round the room- behind the bed, in the bathroom, and the living area.

Gym & Pool: There are NO state of the art equipment. My exercise bike at home is of better quality. The cross trainer squeaks very badly. There are 2 treadmills which you need a special key to operate, and they don't inform you about this. Pool is more like a bathtub.

SDHGSA, Guest Relations Manager at Seasons Darling Harbour, responded to this reviewResponded March 17, 2011

Thank you for your review and for the feedback.

Our refurbishment is underway which will address a lot of these inconveniences.
This also includes fresh coats of paint with vibrant colours and new kitchenette appliances, crockery & cutlery.

The Cloud 9 beds is an item we pride ourselves in and being able to boast the most comfortable sleep in Sydney without the price tag is important to us. We have identified that particular bed in question and have replaced it accordingly. We apologise for not identifying it before your stay.

Pest control is something we take very seriously and we have a stringent program at the Hotel. Unfortunately because the Hotel has windows that can open and also balconies, it is found that during the warmer months, some pests fly into the room. However we address these matters immediately and something we are disappointed with ourselves in. We are very sorry to hear about this.

The pool comments we are a little unsure of however we will take this into consideration.
The gymnasium will receive new equipment that is similar to those of our sister hotels in Seasons Heritage Melbourne. They are state of the art equipment which we will receive shortly.

For any comments or for your particular case to be addressed in more details, please feel free to email us on reservations.sdh@sahg.com.au
