We had booked their jet lag recovery programme as we were arriving at Sydney Airport at 7.00 am. When we arrived at 8.30am, we were told our room was not ready and were asked to wait in the lounge for 10 minutes. Within a few minutes we were shown to our room, which was large with a settee, armchair, coffee table and desk. The bathroom was huge, with 2 wash bowls and a shower big enought to have a party in!

Our room also had a small balcony which overlooked Circular Quay. Whilst we were there, the cruise liner Queen Victoria was moored there and in view from our room.

The continental breakfast was adequate, but there was a not a lot of choice compared to other hotels.

The concierge staff were helpful in recommending places to visit and eat.

The botanic gardens are just across the road from hotel and well worth a visit, if only to see the giant veggie bats, hanging from the trees.

Although we didn't swim in the heated swimming pool, we did relax on the loungers around the pool late one afternoon.

The Sir Stamford is a relatively small hotel, furnished very much in a 'colonial' style with beautiful flower arrangements.

We noticed from some of the other reviews that guests have complained about the 'hill'. In our opinion, it was a gentle slope up from Circular Quay to the hotel. We are in our 60's and not that athletic and we didn't find it a problem.

The rooms are spacious and have good views. Beautifully appointed. Excellent location, (especially if you are going to the Sydney opera house).

4 of us arrived at the Sir Stamford for our 1-night pre-cruise stay after traveling for nearly 24 hours from the USA. Even though it was only 1030AM, 3 out of 4 of our rooms were ready, which was SUCH a relief. We took our luggage to our rooms, washed our faces and headed out to look for food and to do some sightseeing. The wonderful Chief
Concierge Kieran told us about the AMP Plaza food hall 2 blocks away with many food choices. It was a brilliant suggestion! We could all have what we wanted to eat and for a very reasonable price! So fortified, we headed out to do some shopping and sightseeing before collapsing.

The Sir Stamford is across the street from the Sydney Botanical Gardens (which we visited the next morning) and is up a steep hill from the Opera House, the CBD, the Rocks and Circluar Quay. To paraphrase what another Trip Advisor reviewer said in their review : "the walk up and down the street from the Sir Stamford to the Circluar Quay area is very steep and so not good for someone with walking difficulties. " I would absolutely agree with that. 3 out of 4 of our group were age 75+ and all of them complained about the 'hike" back up the hill to the hotel. If we all went to Sydney again, I would book us in to the Marriott Circluar Quay or somewhere else down the hill on the flat area surrounding Circular Quay.

The hotel itself, the former Ritz Carlton, is very comfortable and does not seem to be showing its age. We all had king-bedded rooms that had a sitting areas with sofa, easy chair and coffee table. My corner room was larger than the other ladies' and had a tiny French balcony and a huge marble bathroom with separate shower & tub, while their rooms all had a shower/tub combination. The bathrobes, wall safe, slippers and tons of pillows were welcome additions. The bed was extremely comfortable and I got a great night's sleep. The TV was in an armoire but worked fine and the water temperature & pressure in the shower were fine. The air conditioning was very welcoming and worked perfectly.

We did not have the breakfast buffet because it was not included in the price of our room and was very expensive.

The staff was SO wonderful - informative, helpful, accommodating. Very, very good staff.
I would stay there again just for the staff!

We spent 4 days at the Sir Stamford Hotel in late January 2009. I got the room via Priceline for a bargain, hoping it would at least be livable. I have to say, it was an excellent boutique hotel. We arrived bleary eyed at 8:00a.m., understanding that it was unlikely our room would be ready. They welcomed us, and said our room was ready immediately. After showers, and a cup of coffee, we were able to get on with sightseeing, a little less jet lagged. The room was large and spacious, with a marble bathroom with separate shower and tub and double sinks.
Most importantly, the hotel was a BRIEF walk (less than 5 minutes) from the Ferries and Opera House, so it was in a great location, directly across the street from the Botanic Gardens.
There was a nice pub-like bar, that we used for light snacks, but I don't think their big dining room was open. There was a small rooftop pool, but I didn't use it, with so much to do.
Staff was professional and helpful, guiding us toward things to do. I can't say enough good things about this hotel. I would use them again anytime I travel to Sydney!

My husband and I stayed at the Sir Stamford Circular Quay prior to a cruise.
Location: We loved the location, as it is an easy walk (a few blocks) to Sydney Harbor, the Rocks, and the Overseas Terminal.
Overall Appearance: The building is mid-rise, constructed in red brick, well maintained, and houses a tastefully furnished lobby.
Our Room: We had a large room, with comfortable bed & sitting area. Our room had a juliette balcony facing Macquarie Street, which provided a fantastic view of the Opera House and the Botanical Gardens. Our room was quiet, despite overlooking a well-traveled road. The decor was a bit dated, but clean and in very good condition. The marble bathroom was huge, clean, and well-stocked with fluffy towels, robes and nice toiletries.
Internet access worked well. There was an additional fee for the service.
No fancy flat screen TV's here, but the room had a nice TV contained in a mahogany style cabinet.
Staff: Front desk staff was very helpful and personable. They allowed us to check into our room early, which following a long overseas flight was much appreciated. The concierge provided us with maps, excellent directions, and had a cheerful, pleasant personality.
Dining: Buffet breakfast was good, with hot and cold choices, but can be pricey if you don't have a package that includes breakfast in the price. We did not use any of the other dining options.
Conclusion: We would happily stay at the Sir Stamford Circular Quay again, and would highly recommend this hotel if you enjoy quiet, understated elegance. If you are looking for modern and trendy, then this hotel might not be a good match.

Stayed there over the New Years Eve period, was a bit pricy but you feel like Royalty. The staff were very corteous.

Loved the room - the plush Sofa and the Marble bathroom - exquisite.

Would highly recommend this hotel.

We spent two nights at the Sir Stamford at Circular Quay prior to a cruise. The location is excellent, about two short blocks from the warf. The room and bath are very large with a separate shower and small balcony. The furnishings are a little dated, but comfortable. The concierge and staff were extremely helpful. The buffet breakfast was excellent. One of the best we have ever had. Overall, a very enjoyable stay.
