Maybe old but the place oozes character and quality rooms are massive very clean. Probably the most helpful staff and service we've had the pleasure to experience.I must say the best tasting room service maybe due to not being a very big hotel rooftop pool nice.

We stayed at this hotel in a superior room, the hotel and the staff were fantastic. It is a lovely little boutique hotel and it's in an excellent location, just a short walk (2-5 mins) from the Circular Quay train station (which we did with our suitcases). It is also a hop, skip and a jump to where the bigger cruise ships leave from (again a short walk with suitcases).

We arrived early in the morning (before 9am) so knew it would be unlikely we coule check in to our room straight away. We were offered an upgrade (for AUD$50) to a deluxe room which we were told was bigger than a superior and would be available for immediate check in. We declined as we wanted to just drop our bags and hit the shops anyway. We were advised we could leave our suitcases with the concierge and they would take them to our room as soon as it became available. We spent about five minutes chatting with the two guys (a New Zealand guy and an Australia guy) who were very friendly, providing us with a map and pointing out where things were around the city.

We didn't get back to the hotel until about 6.30pm and went up to our room. Wow it was enormous so I wonder how much bigger the deluxe room would have been. It really was a wonderful room and when we return to Sydney for our next holiday we will definately stay here again. We only had the one night here as the next day we were departing on a 10 night Queensland cruise.

The next day we didn't want to have breakfast in the hotel so the concierge recommended a couple of cafes close by. Check out wasn't until 11am which was great and allowed us a leisurely morning. When we checked out I decided to be cheeky and ask if it would be ok when we got off the cruise ship to come back to the hotel and store our bags for 4-5 hours while we hit the shops again before having to head to the airport for our evening international flight home. We were told no problem and it wasn't a problem - this was great and the service we received when we arrived with our cases 10 days later was once again friendly.

We highly recommend this hotel and we will stay here on our next visit to Sydney.

Room Tip: I think any room would be good, we were in a superior room.

Dear Cruise Guest,

Thank you for your detailed feedback regarding your recent stay with us. At this time of year we welcome many guests departing and arriving from the Cruise ships. The majority of our Superior and Deluxe rooms in fact offer a glimpse of Circular Quay where you can spot the huge structures dominating the harbourside.

Our Concierge team have been kept busy with the arrivals and departures of Cruise guests wishing to store luggage - We know how much it means to have a safe-haven to store bags for the day and I'm pleased that this service meant so much to you .

Again, thank you for taking the time to leave your thoughts about the Sir Stamford and we look forward to one day welcoming you back.

We traveled from the US to Australia and stayed for 2 nights at Sir Stamford at Circular Quay Hotel Sydney and one night at the Stamford in Melbourne. Both hotels were wonderful!! The staff at the Circular Quay were simply AMAZING to us and met every need. We arrived in Sydney in the morning after traveling for 21+ hours and were completely exhuasted. Our room wasn't ready yet, so they took our bags up to the pool, brought us water and sunscreen. We were able to relax, shower and then tour around until our room was ready. I can't tell you how much that meant to us. We were traveling with our 6 year old and being at the pool after a long flight was perfect. I can't imagine staying anywhere else after staying at the Sir Stamford at Circular Quay Hotel Sydney!! The room was great, the food was excellent (I highly recommend breakfast at the hotel!!) and the staff treated us like family. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!! We really appreciate everything you did for us!!

Dear Thankful Guest,

It has been our pleasure to be able to accommodate you at the Sir Stamford and I am pleased to learn that you made the most of our swimming pool on the outdoor terrace.

With some Sydney Summer days reaching 40 degrees celsius the swimming pool is the ultimate gem of our hotel at this time and is the perfect place to cool off after a day shopping, touring, sight-seeing etc.

Thank you for taking the time to review and we look forward to welcoming you back to the Sir Stamford at Circular Quay in the future.

This used to be the Ritz Carlton, its a shame they could have not retained the staff! Amenities do not make hotels great, staff do and here this hotel is lacking, severely.

We arrived late afternoon on boxing day and as we unpacked the suitcases from the taxi we wondered if we had been dropped at a rear entrance as there was no sign of a bell boy to assist with the luggage. Once we had unpacked and started hauling our cases inside a bell boy finally appeared to assist.

The rooms were very spacious although very dated. There was no turn down service and when a glass was broken on the first night, it was not replaced throughout the remainder of our stay ... was this our penalty for breaking a glass?

We went down to the concierge to enquire about a place for dinner (the hotels own restaurant was shut) but the concierge assured us there were plenty of places open. He suggested we take a walk around, but with 2 small children we did not want to take the chance of wandering aimlessly for hours before we ate, especially as the receptionist was saying that most places would be closed. The concierge suggested a few places within a 15 minute walk. Rather than offer, I had to ask him to ring and check they were open .... none were! We ended up in the bar.

The bar .... a surely man on duty and none too helpful. He gave us the menu and we asked for the childrens menu, "we dont have one" was the curt reply. When we explained that we were told given the restaurant wasclosed the childrens room service menu was available in the bar tonight, he walked off mumbling tat no one told him!

Unfortunately the friendliness of the staff did not improve, breakfast was full of long faces and trying to order another coffee was an often long ordeal.

For the price I would expect a lot more. We wont be going back.

Dear Valued Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to leave your thoughts regarding your recent stay. I am sorry to learn that your experience fell short of your expectations.

We are a 5 star boutique hotel with a team of 80+ staff members. Comments regarding the friendliness and helfulness of our staff are frequent. To read that our team were not up to scratch on this ocassion is both surprising and disappointing. Rest assured I have followed up with the particular departments mentioned in your review to ensure improvement is made.

Once again, your feedback is greatly appreciated and I hope that one day you will give the Sir Stamford at Circular Quay another chance to impress.

Our family of 3 adults stayed for two nights in December 2012. We had a very positive experience at this small, classic style hotel. The hotel is in an excellent location near the Botanic Gardens, the Rocks and the Sydney Opera House. Our room and bathroom were extremely generous, and we loved the small Juliet balcony with a view toward the Harbour. We found the Reception and Concierge staff to be polite, professional and helpful. We enjoyed a lovely meal each evening in the Dining Room. The $49 special for two courses was a great deal. The contemporary cuisine was beautifully cooked and presented. We can all highly recommend the Deconstructed Salad Nicoise, the Pan Seared Scallops and the Zucchini Flower and White Asparagus entrées. The Dining Room staff were professional and courteous. We have only one small criticism in this area. The Dining Room seemed a little short staffed at times, and we found it difficult to locate a waiter to ask for some water. However, apart from this small problem, we would happily stay again in this unique and delightful hotel.

Dear Valued Reviewer,

Your review is a pleasure to read. I am glad that you found the Dining Room menu to your liking. Our $49 Summer Dining Special is proving to be a very popular choice among guests and passers by of the hotel. It will continue to be available throughout the Summer season and is excellent value for fine dining.

We hope to welcome you back to the Sir Stamford in the future - where you can look forward to sampling our new seasonal menus.

We arrived for 2 nights over new years eve to be upgraded to a beautiful suite. My daughter thought we were staying in a palace. Enjoyed the facilities of the pool and being served lunch on the terrace. Played games in the lobby on our floor and nibbled on yummy cheese platter. The service was amazing, especially as they were full for new year. Had lovely dinner and watched the fireworks from the rooftop - most amazing view and a night we'll remember forever!! Give this beautiful, elegant hotel the big thumbs up and will be back for sure.

Dear Impressed Guest,

Wow - Your lovely comments about the hotel and hotel facilities are greatly appreciated. I love that your daughter likened the hotel to a palace, it sounds like the family really made the most of the fun to be had at the Sir Stamford over the New Year’s period.

Words can't describe Sydney on New Year Eve, especially watching the fireworks light up the sky from our roof top. The view of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge is difficult to beat and a definite once in a lifetime opportunity.

We hope you join us again on your next visit to Sydney - perhaps even another New Years Eve celebration.

We stayed the night of 15 December 2012. This small, unique hotel has a nice charm and atmosphere. The high point for us was the $49 2 course meal (dinner) - no other word, divine food. The bar, likewise is very good. Overall, we had a positive stay, we will come back and we will recommend this hotel. Yes, it is pricer than other Sydney offerings, but if you want something slightly different, with excellent large rooms, and an excellent location and small feel - this is it. Only two small criticisms. 1 - When you arrive you cannot use the lift from the car park so you have to lug your luggage to the front door. Can I recommend that you you check in before you park your car. (pity there is no full valet parking). 2 - The pool (small as it is) was closed for maintenance. Despite these 2 small points, I will be back.

Dear Satisfied Reviewer,

I am pleased that you found the time to indulge in our $49.00 two course Summer dining special. This offer is fantastic value for those looking to wine and dine as it also includes a beverage of your choice.

We do recommend our guests to check in prior to parking their car. Our Concierge team are on hand to assist with luggage and valet parking should you prefer not to park the car yourself.

Our swimming pool is located on the Terrace over looking Circular Quay and is most welcoming on a hot summer day. I am sorry that you did not get the opportunity to take a dip during your stay, I only hope that the weather permits a swim on your next visit.

Thank you for sharing your feedback and experience of the Sir Stamford and we look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.
