Opposite the Botanical Park and within sight of the harbour the Sir Stamford is an ideal location ( not sure about car parking though)
It's an old fashioned hotel which suits its age. Our room was huge and as we had a one year old with us it was ideal for her. 2 mins walk to Circular Quay and the opera house .5 minute walk to The Rocks and Sydney Harbour Brigde .

Dear Valued Guests

Small children do love the hotel, the sparkling chandeliers give the hotel a fairy tale look and seems to awe them. Morris our resident Wombat is also a source of fun and we do have the necessary cots and highchairs - five star is for children as well!

Location to the Royal Botanic Gardens is as you say on our doorstep - this enormous area has many private areas full of majestic trees and in some cases very rare flora and fauna - there are exceptional statues and sculptures and several activity areas - a little train that does a circuit for families, events such as the Jazz and Swing festival that is in the open air near the First Landing Steps. Kids love the bird and reptiles that wander around the gardens - from the Flying Foxes to the Lizards, Kookaburras to Rosellas....

Kind regards and thank you for taking the time to review our 105 room boutique city hotel.

Very stylish boutique hotel in a handy location. Harbour views, heated pool, robes and slippers. Loved the twin basins - not so keen on the louvre toilet doors though. I had kind of hoped for a more luxurious mattress topper. Staff were all helpful and the breakfasts were lovely.
I'd love to stay here again.

Room Tip: They have balcony rooms which I didn't have but looked nice.

Dear valued New Zealand guest,

Many thanks for the 5 star review of Sir Stamford at Circular Quay, one of only a few boutique hotels in the CBD. Many of our New Zealand guests return for business and combine the visit with shopping or live shows and of course the events that Sydney is famous for. The success of the inaugural Opera on the Harbour was a triumph this year and we doubt anyone will be disappointed when Bizet's Carmen takes the stage in April 2013 - the tickets go on sale on October 8th and we are sure this will be another world class event. As our hotel is just across from the Botancial Gardens with walking access to the Fleet Steps we are a natural choice for accommodation.

PS our deluxe rooms and suites have the soft mattress toppers.

Kind regards
Heather Idoine

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying at Sir Stamford to celebrate our wedding anniversary back in July and we wern't disappointed. (I know the review is a bit late coming but wanted to share my wonderful experience). The hotel itself is so beautiful, so full of charm ,but the outstanding feature for us was the hospitality of the staff. They seem to have struck the right balance between friendliness and professionalism (a rarity these days). We were lucky enough to be upgraded to a suite which was truly wonderful. As our visit was during winter the drawcard had to be the open fireplace where we gathered for pre dinner drinks with the other guests before savouring our delicious meal in the hotel's restaurant. The central location is fantastic, we enjoyed a leisurely walk around the Botanic Gardens and visited the Art Gallery. To sum it up you can stay in any 5 star hotel in Sydney where you can get all the mod cons, views etc or you can have a truly memorable experience at Sir Stamford. I wouldnt stay anywhere else.

Dear Anniversary Guests

We do thank you for your warm review, especially the photos of our outstanding team member Morris the Wombat obviously enjoying a morning coffee in our lobby. He exemplifies our 24/7 attitude - always on duty to please our guests.

It is indeed a skill to combine friendliness and professionlism, especially with 110 staff and an operation which never stops. We all enjoy the charming working environment, the fine art and the most of all we think we have the best house guests in the world. From our regular country and interstate guests to our first time guests from all parts of the world they make being in the hospitality industry so enjoyable.

We hope we see you on your next anniversary.

I stayed there a couple of weeks ago and what a beautiful hotel it was. Its in a brilliant location, train station a minute's walk away. The staff are very friendly and courteous. The King room deluxe is very spacious, and with the advanced booking rate its very good value for money. I will be staying there again.

Room Tip: 801 is quiet for a hotel room with modern air con system, 803 is a very large room.

I have stayed at the Sir Stamford several times now. It has a bit of a traditional atmosphere with good sized rooms that are comfortable and quiet. It is well located 2 minutes from circular quay. The staff are unobtrusive but friendly and helpful. The gym was a bit disappointing with limited equipment

Dear Valued Guests

Sir Stamford at Circular Quay thanks you for your feedback - our outdoor pool, deck area and our little gymnasium - complete with its marble sauna is as boutique as the hotel. We are looking forward to our new look coverings and also the addition of swiss balls and mats to the equipment. A hotel with character is the perfect description - and we are very pleased it suited you and your travel needs.

On arrival in Macquarie Street you can see the tips of the Opera House and that's when you get the proximity of the hotel to the many and varied acitviites around Circular Quay - we are tucked away yet so close - it's a walkers paradise.

Me and my girlfriend stayed here last November and it was quite simply the best hotel either of us had ever stayed in, Near to the opera house and everything else you need to see, The service here was unbelievable! There was an extremely hot day that the missus decided she wanted to shop (!), And on return to the hotel, I was dying for an ice cold VB, On seeing how hot we were, The barman, Who's name i sadly don't remember, Walked over with two tall glasses of water and ice, Telling us to take our time and cool down and to call him when we were ready to order, What a legend! The concierge also saw me reading the Sydney Morning Herald when I went out for a cigarette one night, And so for the next 5 mornings of our stay every morning at 7am there was a Sydney morning herald newspaper waiting outside my door, Just fantastic, Plus the member of staff who brought up some hot water with lemon and honey when my girlfriend wasn't feeling too great, Awesome.
Plus, If you turn up too early for your stay, Like we did at 6am off a long haul flight from London, They offer you the showers and rest facilities in their wonderful gym, Just no better hotel, Unreal, Thanks guys!!! See you very soon!

Room Tip: Just Unreal!!!

Dear Valued Guests

It's a pleasure to read such an all round review that captures the hotel from morning till night, and covers so many different contact points. It's very difficult for overseas guests arriving very early off flights to have to wait for a hotel room especially when the hotel is fully booked. However the pool and gym area do provide an area to refresh and concierge can store bags until rooms become available.

Thank you for taking the time to share you experiences, we do appreciate your comments.

Kind regards

The pictures on the website and this site does not do this wonderful Hotel justice!
Honestly, we stay in wonderful luxurious places all over the world, but this was something else.
Think stepping into the set of "Downton Abbey" crossed with classical French decorations and features.
From the grand fireplace to the floor-to-ceiling marble bathrooms, this building takes your breath away!
I was clever enough to book this hotel for 3 nights, consisting of a few packages and a standard room for our small wedding in Circular Quay, 7th September 2012.
Before hand, the staff (in particular Con and Alice) conferred with me via email to make sure everything was correct and in order. They helped put my mind at ease as I was getting stressed what with delivery of bouquets, who is sleeping where, etc. On arrival, my girlfriend and I had purchased the "Celebration Package". We forgot to keep our gorgeous little bathrobes!! But there was champagne and a delicious high tea (scones=devine) served in the lovely bar.
The next day was the wedding, and we booked the "Romance and Seduction" package, which is exactly that. Although I recommend changing the name, as it sounds a bit corny. But this was anything but!! We upgraded to the better room, which was stunning with a balcony and sweeping voile curtains, we had champagne on ice, strawberries dipped in champagne, and rose petals EVERYWHERE. It took my breath away as I entered the room, after our wedding dinner, and saw red rose petals ALL over the bed. Not just thrown or dumped, but lovingly placed. Continue into the white marble bathroom, again, rose petals in the bath tub, plus our amenities were now Bvulgari (smelled amazing, where can I buy the shower gel??)
We had a wonderful relaxing evening there.
Breakfast every day was set in a very special place, that looks over the park opposite, and sunlight streams through the windows, baskign everything in golden sunlight. Whilst the hot buffet food wasn't great, the cold selection was delicious, plus I love the honeycomb straight from the tray, which I was very excited to be the first one to break it open one morning!
The staff throughout the hotel were unpretentious, heartfelt, excited for us and sincere. I wanted to leave my bouquet with the girls at reception as a thank you, but I forgot sadly.
Next time we stay in Sydney, this is where we will stay, no question. We loved it. I look forward to visiting again, next time we shall tip heavily as I don't think we did once last time, maybe the porter once, but there was too much going on and never enough cash!!

Dear Valued Guests

Your review took our breath away - what perfect guests you are - cleverly utilising the internet to package for yourself an unforgettable experience - combining the packages over three nights to create the very best that we offer - well done! However we will always assist any callers and walk through the inclusions to ensure it's the right fit for the right ocassion. If you would like us to forward the 2 - waffle Celebration robes, please do give us a call, we'd be more than happy to send them to you.

We appreciate your descriptions of the hotel, and while we love our "vintage" environment - it's not quite as grand as Downton Abbey - we wish we had their grounds.

Tipping is certainly not expected in Australian Hotels, and our team really do love to see happy guests, so please don't be concerned on that account. Word of mouth reviews like yours are the best form of generosity to give as this ensures we are able to compete in the global market, and as a boutique hotel with just 105 rooms this is invaluable - so thank you again.

Kind regards and congratulations, we look forward to your return.
