The Dir Stamford is located a few minutes from the Opera House and is across from the Sydney Botanic Gardens, the hotel has recently been refurbished under new management. The rooms are large and comfortable with plentyy of power points to recharge cameras and phones. The window opens onto a small balcony (of a large one if you upgrade), the restaurant is well appointed and chef cooks terrific lamb, the bar is relaxed. A must do is the high tea which runs from 11am!

Dear Valued Guests

Sir Stamford at Circular Quay thanks you for your excellent feedback about the rooms, food and location. Refurbishment is continual, with recent improvements the complete replacement of the silk wall coverings in the lobby, Elizabeth and other conference rooms, plus new carpet. French polishing of the antique furniture happens weekly and re-upholstery of 40 couches and armchairs has recently been completed.

We have a new winter menu in The Dining Room, the firewood has been delivered for our big lobby fireplace and the warmer is ready for Gluwein in The Bar. Our next big event is our entry into the Cancer Societies fundraiser for the cities biggest morning tea. We are preparing the "Tallest High Tea" to be served on 24th May in The Bar - from 10.00am.

Kind regards
Heather Idoine

I have read some reviews and can understand this hotel is not for all, but we find it charming and quirky and very comfortable. It is not as large or slick as most 5 star hotels, but it does offer a touch of luxury the huge places do not. The rooms are larger than normal, the breakfast is fine and warms dishes in old silver servers, like a rather good old English seaside hotel. The front desk staff were young, snooty and inexperienced - but this is common elsewhere in Sydney. It has THE BEST bar that we use even if we are staying some place else. Fantastic professional bar staff, reminds me of the best hotel bars in London. Oil paintings, open fire, piano, its a blast from the past that we adore.

Room Tip: We had a twin room on the 4th at the front with its own Juliet balcony which was spacious and not noisy once you closed the french doors.

Dear Valued Guests

Thank you for highlighting our differences and taking the time to review our boutique 105 room hotel. The Bar is such a beautiful space - and has a very diverse range of clientele as it is open from 11.00 am 365 days a year till late and ocassionally until well past midnight. High Teas, Business lunches, afternoon cocktails, Jazz, pianists and staff who enjoy their oppulent surroundings. From Curry Puffs (a must have) to Caesar Salads there's choice for all. There is a new eclectic winelist - my favourite is the Baby Doll - NZ Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc - so called after the minature sheep that graze between the vines - TRULY!

Quite possibly for European Travellers it is not so different from the historic hotels that abound in UK and Europe, but Sir Stamford has it's own Australian flavour and this does give it the edge - apart from our location which is a great juxtoposition - as it is just 400 meters from one of the most iconic contemporary building of the world.

As you so correctly state, not for all, but we hope after reading reviews, an excellent choice for some.

Kind regards and return again soon.

This hotel could not be in a better location, but is not 5 star. There is a distinct lack of staff, had to wait almost half an hour for simple breakfast. One person on check out, with 100 plus rooms results in queues. Bedrooms are very comfortable and well appointed, which with the location could be a hotel I would recommend, but i have to say it is pricey for what it is. Concierge not very knowledgeable about routes locally.

Dear Valued Guests

Thank you for your excellent location review - being 5 star is not just about the physical aspects of a property - it is indeed about the quality of staff. On behalf of all our 110 strong team, we do apologise for the congestion that occurred over Easter. I am sure the Concierge Team will be mortified that you were not given good directions - as they do pride themselves on local knowledge. We see that you did not enjoy the city double decker bus tour and will definitely review this ourselves, we do want to be giving accurate information, it's a very "popular" experience. The company we most reccomend is Ultimately Sydney - half day tours in style - or our limo company Brunel who also do private charters. It is only through receiving feedback that we can continue to improve.

Thank you again

Super accommodation lovely bathrooms however can be spoilt by traffic noise depending on the room you are allocated. Thanks to Dean for his recommendations and to Con for making our reservation and stay so pleasurable. Staff could not be faulted and a special mention to Kylie on reception. We were leaving on a late flight and were allowed to store our luggage and shower and change before our departure. This was most welcome. The breakfast was to a high standard and cooked on request.
We dined in the restaurant on 2 occasions which was recommended by Dean as there was a promotion on and food was first rate especially there signature desert the Chocolate implosion Business facilities were provided and most welcome.

Dear Valued Guests

Thank your for recognising so many of our staff by name, Dean Con and Kylie will be delighted to be recognised for their good service. With 105 rooms and 110 staff we do have a good ratio to be able to deliver high standards. Our Dining Room has an excellent meal package which includes 2 courses and a beverage for $49 per peron, which makes for a pleasant evening under chandeliers in the comfort of our Macquarie Street location, looking out at the lovely autumnal plane trees.

Sir Stamford has an excellent Winter Snuggler Package just released for winter that is now available on line on our website and when combined with our advance purchase discounts (30 days 12% discount) makes for a very reasonable winter treat.

Kind regards

Our stay at Sir Stamford was for 4 nights and it was great. We had great proximity to the
Opera House and the Botanic Gardens. The breakfast was delicious though it wasn't free with the room. We got a two for one special deal which helped with the pricey food. The bed was comfy and the room was very clean. The pool is also really nice after a long day of sightseeing. A great hotel for a special occasion like our anniversary. Also we were able to check in earlier than normal check-in time which was fabulous!

Dear Valued Guests

Thank you for your encompassing excellent review, (and photos) you have summed up our hotel very nicely :- classy, comfortable, well located.

Sir Stamford offer several inclusive packages - the top seller is "Celebration" which includes many treats from High Tea to 2, take home waffle bathrobes, plus breakfast for 2 and a 12.00 noon check out. However we do have a very attractive winter special coming up - that is available from 01 May - called Winter Snuggler and can be booked on our website - this includes $1 breakfasts - it is very popular as it has become an annual offer.

The heated pool on the roof of the historic 1897 building (level 5) is small but as you say very pleasant after a day out sightseeing or shopping. As winter is relatively mild in Sydney - we find it is used year round.

Once again thank you for taking the time to post your comments.
Kind regards
Heather Idoine
