“Hard to beat in Sydney”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 20, 2013

Sydney has lots of slick, comfortable hotels but it's hard to think of a better one than this. While it's modern and architecturally undistinguished, the Park Hyatt occupies a terrific spot, overlooking Circular Quay from the quiet southern end, with the Harbour Bridge impressively towering above. The whole of central Sydney is within more or less a half hour's easy and pleasant walk. The hotel is adjacent to the Rocks, Sydney's oldest and charming if inevitably touristy precinct, with its waterside restaurants backed by old stone warehouses and less famous drawcards, notably the delightful early colonial Observatory, Garrison Church and Lord Nelson pub. It's also only a few minutes walk from the Sydney Theatre Company's two waterside venues.

Our 'king' room overlooking Circular Quay was spacious and comfortable (and very reasonably priced for the corporate rate we were fortunate to be paying). It had the most enormous bed we've ever encountered - what's the next one up from 'king'? 'Emperor'? Equally vast tv. Good wi-fi and fantastic bathroom with great shower. A teapot was a nice and surprisingly unusual touch. Service couldn't have been more friendly.

Only brick-bats: $40 for one night's garaging seemed a bit steep. We thought the high tech variant on curtains was noisy, laborious and unnecessary. And though we requested the 'Sunday Telegraph' we got the 'Sun Herald'. But overall recommended.

Park Hyatt is in a great location and has stunning views of the Opera House. The rooms are nicely furnished and are very modern. It is very clean and we were impressed with the service. I'd definitely come back.

After many years of travelling to Sydney and elsewhere in the major cities of Australia, at last Sydney (and Australia? - Happy to take suggestions if someone knows another like this.) has a hotel with quality and service up there with the best in Asia. A very Grand Hyatt Roppongi feel to the hotel throughout (this is good), the hotel has always had the amazing location but that aside, versus what else Sydney has to offer, it is head and shoulders above all the others in terms of rooms and service.
My wife and two boys (5 and 2) had the pleasure of spending 10 nights there over Easter. We had 2 adjoining opera rooms, one king and one twin. Both were well laid out ( go online to see photos) and with balconies overlooking the harbour and opera house. They were of a good size with a wet-room style bathroom, seating area, comfortable bed, proper blackout blinds, balcony overlooking the Opera House, etc Of course the renovation is quite recent so all the fixtures and fittings are pretty new. All round, the rooms were great.
Taking our two young boys anywhere is always a test and the hotel passed with high marks. OK there were a couple of times room service didn't get our exacting orders perfect (e.g. linguini instead of penne - I know, not a big deal but if you are a hungry 2 year old, these things are the difference between a happy meal and a breakdown...). But this was the exception. At breakfast in the mornings, we were always well looked after by the Maitre D' who runs a very tight ship with his team. A good mix of efficient and friendly. We also took the boys down to the main restaurant (The Dining Room) a couple of times for dinner. First time we were a little wary, given it is definitely a more serious venue in the evenings, but our fears were quickly put to rest. The Maitre D' again made sure we were quickly seated and both he and the waitstaff were immediately in tune with our needs: a quick but certainly not rushed dinner with no compromise on quality. Our boys loved the kids food on the menu and as our waiter (same guy both times) made sure they were set for drinks, bread, main and desserts, we ate well too. Very relaxed.
The concierge desk also helped us with various transport and ticket needs and were always ready to help. Whether planning the logisitcs and tickets to take the boys to the Royal Easter Show for an activity day out, or getting us a last minute table at one of Sydney's long-booked-up restaurants and a babysitter, they really stepped up to the plate.
Overall, we can't wait to return and would encourage anyone with the budget who is thinking about taking their young children to Sydney not to look beyond the Park Hyatt. And we certainly were not the only parents travelling with children there either. OK - it is pricey by Sydney standards but if you are looking at five star hotels, and with our benchmarks largely in the Amans and FS's resorts in Asia, I think it was reasonable value. I hope you enjoy your stay as much as we did.

Room Tip: Our rooms were close to one of the service doors which closed with a slam and the movement in and ou...

we stayed here the night before and after the wedding because we wanted something special, and special is exactly what we got! from the moment we checked in to the moment we checked out, we felt like VIP guests. the rooms were big and luxurious. the balcony views of the sydney harbor were just breathtaking!

we had brunch at the dining room after the wedding and the food was amazing. we reserved the private dining room to ensure that we would get a bit more privacy, it turned out to be just a little section cornered off from the main dining room, and not an actual private dining area.

nonetheless, it was still a very memorable stay- simply the best in sydney!

The movement you step into this hotel you will be greeted by the most friendly and professional staff. This is what sets the hotel apart form the rest of other five star hotels in Sydney.

Christian, the concierge will look after all your needs while you are there. He is by far the best concierge I have met.

The rooms are incredible and boast of any luxury you would normally expect from a Hyatt property. The views from the hotel are magnificent.

The quality and service of food in the restaurant is excellent.

So while the hotel might be more expensive, definitely worth the stay.

Unbeatable location. Brilliant service. Quality fixtures and furnishings. Outstanding food. Silver service in room dining - what an experience.

Best seats in the house for Vivid!

Not priced as your average hotel stay. But it's not meant to be. Worth it for a super special treat.
