“Pool let us down a little but Concierge Team won the day”
Reviewed August 21, 2013

We stayed here for 5 nights and then returned a week later for one night before flying back home. The bedroom was clean and well appointed and 3 of us slept in comfort. It was a little short on storage space. The hotel is situated on George street. and well placed for Central Station, Darling Harbour & Paddy's Market (45 mins to Opera House). Next to the Hotel are several small supermarkets and restaurants / sandwich bars. We ate out so cannot comment on the Hotel restaurants. The Concierge Team are the jewel in the crown at this hotel. Nothing is too much trouble and they were one of the best I have come across. There is a small gym next to the pool which appeared reasonably well equipped. One of the reasons we had chosen this Hotel was due to the fact it had a pool (and location). We were a little let down by the pool in that it was a little cold and was'nt particularly inviting as it was fairly dark at one end by the windows. However it was reasonably clean and on our second visit seemed a little warmer. There is a sauna which on our first visit was always switched off and it was not clear how to switch on. It was working well on our second visit. All the staff we met were very friendly and gave good service. Overall our experience at the hotel was good and we would probably return again (definitely if the pool was warmer!).

Room Tip: Both different rooms we stayed in were good and well appointed/good standard.

Stayed there as part of a company's trip for 3 nights. Shared a room with a colleague, spacious room with 2 double rooms.comfortable beddings with the right firmness. Slept soundly throughout the 3 nights. Good selection of breakfast. Quite delicious too. Great staff, who demonstrate the friendly Australian culture. Lovely location, within walking distance to Surrey hill. Paddington market, Chinatown. Just a step away from the metro station. But there is no free wifi provided. Recommended for a short trip to explore Sydney.

We would like to say a big thank you to Mr Ravijay, the manager. He makes our stay a wonderful one (room 831) desipte of the 10 non stop raining day in June 2013.

The hotel is at a very convenient location, the room is clean, but kind-of small for 3, and the buffet breakfast is good too.

My husband and I stayed here twice in 2012, both for 5 day stretches. Located at the top of George Street, it is a nice walk down to town and the harbour, and a good distance from other areas of Sydney. It is also right next to the train station and there are some cafes nearby. The rooms are quite basic but absolutely perfect, furnished well and very clean. Breakfast is nice in the hotel, with a patisserie just outside if you fancy a change. We would definitely stay here again on our next trip to Sydney.

You really feel like you get the benefit of Mercure's extensive international experience in this well-tuned hotel. Not luxury, but comfortable, scrupulously clean and, for the most part, thoughtfully appointed. Great bed & pillows, some of the best (largest) hotel towels I've seen at this grade, good quality shampoo & soap. Quieter than I expected for such a central location—in fact really no adverse noise to speak of.

Another plus for this hotel is location: right next to Central Station. While Central is not exactly in the heart of Sydney's CBD (despite the name), it makes accessing Sydney very easy. It's also great if you plan to arrive by train from the airport.

Downsides: Not many; If I had to quibble I'd say some stronger lights would help: the mood lighting is nice but not great for finding things in my bag. And I couldn't find a bedside power socket. (Maybe it's tucked behind all the furniture?)

But all in all, think value. I can't think there are too many places in Sydney that give you this much position and comfort at such a competitive price.

Room Tip: My guess is the rooms facing Little Regent Street are the quietest.
