“Good Central Location.”
Reviewed January 6, 2013

The Mercure is value for money. It is exactly how it is described on it's website. Staff are wonderful and the concierge are very helpful.

Great location being near a Railway Sq and Central Station, you can basically go anywhere in Sydney from here.

The rooms were small but enough for two people. Great place to stay if you dont intend to stay in your hotel room the whole time you are in Sydney.

We stayed at The Mecure Sydney on the 31/12/12 and 01/01/13 in one of the double-double rooms (2 X Double Beds). The room was of a decent size by Australian standards and 4 people with only a small amount of luggage each fit nicely.
The room was clean and the service at Check in, Check out was very prompt, friendly and smooth. The maid service was also fantastic as we needed to request more towels and they were delivered within minutes.

The car park is very reasonable by Sydney standards at $27 a day and it is located under the hotel so makes access with luggage very easy due to elevator service.
There looked to be a decent guest laundry facility in the carpark area too, although we did not use this service.
Our only gripe was that the bathroom needed updating in our room as the tiles were very dated and the basin had a large crack in it that had been repaired with a ceramic glue/cement. The shower is over a very deep and high bath, with a shower curtain so it makes keeping the water in the shower a bit tricky.
Overall we were very happy with our stay, the hotel is centrally located and within close striking distance on foot or by cab and train to all Sydney has to offer.

Our low score on value for money is purely due to the price hike that accompanies NYE, but it was definitely one of the more affordable options in Sydney at this time of year.

I appreciate your feedback on your bathroom and I can confirm that we have renovated half of the rooms in the hotel (including bathrooms) and the remaining rooms will be completed this year. Our stay included buffet breakfast each morning, so coupled with the location, booking here made sense.

The room was fine - clean and spacious enough, and quiet (in a noisy part of town!). The first thing we noticed was quite a strong and not particularly pleasant smell when you opened the door. Once you've been inside the room for a while you don't notice it anymore, but it definitely hit you each time you entered. The other bad (really bad) smell eminated from the bathroom plughole whenever you used the hot water tap. Yuk!

Room service is reasonably priced and prompt. Breakfast buffet dining room is huge and can get pretty busy and crowded at times, but staff keep things flowing fairly smoothly. The hotel also caters to those who prefer an Asian or Indian style breakfast, either through room service or as part of the buffet.

Due to the one way streets around the area, we found it very difficult to access the hotel initially (using GPS). Be prepared!

Barely a 10 minute walk to cheap and cheerful Paddy's Markets and Chinatown, and you can access Central Station directly from the rear of the property without needing to cross any (busy) roads.

I wouldn't stay here for a romantic getaway, but good choice for families I think!

I stayed here for three nights after flying over from the UK, before setting off for Tasmania. I only discovered after booking, but the hotel is ideally situated just a couple of minutes walk from the city's main Central Railway Station! There is plenty to do and see in that area, and the walk up George Street towards the harbour offers plenty.
My room was massive, and the bathroom was spacious too. All the staff I dealt with were helpful and knowledgeable, and I cannot fault anything about the hotel at all! Free wifi would have been nice though!
The hotel was relatively cheap I thought, although as I was to discover Sydney as a place was anything but! As and when I return to the city (I am sure I will in due course), I will stay here again.

Stayed here about a month ago. Brilliant location right next to Central station, though the rooms are a little small. Quiet and comfortable, the rooms have had a bit of effort put in to touch them up with paint etc (short of a real refurb though) and it shows!

Only minor complaint was that our glasses were dirty, and so had to drink bottled water. The manager at checkout handled this very well, however, and didn't charge us for this!

Would recommend for anyone who needs quick access to Chinatown or Central station!

This is a good hotel to stay when you plan to visit Sydney.
The Hotel has good rooms (not big) and has a good breakfast service, in summary it is a good cost x benefit hotel.
The key point of the hotel is the location.
Beside the Central Station allows you to move anywhere in Sydney with the train.
If you like to walk you can walk up to 30-40 min to Circule Quay (key place).
This place is very close to the PowerHouse Museum which is a must attraction for the kids.

We decided to spend new year in Sydney. The hotel was average, way below Ibis Hotels which we have stayed at in other cities of the world. The service was very poor, asked for an extra pillow, none available, rubbish bin empted second day, cups not washed, no towels . Rang housekeeping about towels which were delivered 37 minutes later. Location is not the best, backpackers part of Sydney, The hotel looks tired and could do with an upgrade. It is very expensive even though for new year the prices are very high. The standard room is very small and in fact the whole hotel could do with an upgrade.
