“Great location - Can't say the same about the service!”
Reviewed January 11, 2010

My wife and I stayed here after taking up a really good offer from Toga Hospitality so it seems a bit rude to have to raise a few complaints.

Checking in was a breeze with all our details already on the booking form and needing only a signature it was a speedy process. I noticed a sign on the counter saying that upgrades were available for $20 per night.

As to be expected for the price, our room was VERY small so I rang reception to see if an upgrade was available. The female receptionist said there was one available and she would send a porter straight up. Not wanting to disturb anyhting in the room we just sat on a chair and waited. And waited. And waited.

After half an hour my wife went down to see what was happening only to find out that the girl who took the call had gone home and they would have to see what they could do. After more phone calls they offered a room for an extra $70 per night which we declined saying that we had been offered one for $20. She said that these were all gone now!!! To cut a long story short we finally got a room for the offered rate after a long and frustrating wait.

We also needed parking for the night ($30 which is a bit steep) and were told just to park anywhere in the carpark and leave the keys with them. Only to find out that there were no parking spaces available. More calls to reception. Park anywhere and they'll sort it out if the car needed shifting. Came back in the morning to find a note attached to the car from the hotel saying that we should have made arrangements to park there. We had - 3 times!!

And as for the chocolates I had preordered? They didn't appear at all.

The location is great and the room we got eventually was good so if they improve their 'service' then it would be a first rate accommodation.

As I was staying in Sydney for a week I had high hopes for the Medina Harbourside and it didn't let me down. I absolutely loved the apartment, it was a home from home. The apartment had a well equipped kitchen, great lounge area and a large bathroom. We also had a balcony and could see Darling Harbour to our right. To get to the centre of Sydney was easy, you can get the ferry from outside the aquarium next door and take it to Circular Quay. This gives you great views across the harbour.
The Medina Harbourside also has a gym and a pool which we found great after being out for the day. The only down side to the Medina is that it is next to the Western Highway which is noisey if you are on the balcony but you can't hear it once inside the apartment. I would definitely stay here again.

We stayed at the Medina Grand Harbourside for 6 nights at the beginning of December. We had a one bedroom apartment on the top floor with a city view.

We normally stay at the Oaks whilst in Australia, but to be honest, the Medina Grand Harbourside surpassed any of the Oaks we have stayed in.

The apartment was fantastic - very clean and modern. Not huge, but it had everything we needed in it - a desk area, dining table, lounge, kitchen, bathroom, laundry and bedroom.

The apartments are in a fantastic location, directly next door to the aquarium and a short walk to Darling Harbour and the ferry points.

When next in Sydney we won't hesitate - we'll be staying here again !

Large apartment with dining table in the corner. Small but well equipped kitchen, comfortable bed and a bathroom with a washing machine and dryer. It was serviced daily. Small pool with gym and sauna. No dining other than breakfast, which I did not use. The location is great, next to the aquarium and 2 minutes from the ferry terminal and restaurants and bars at Darling Harbour . Twenty minutes walk toCircular Quay. Quite a bit of traffic noise the other side of the double glazing. We would stay there again.

My sister and I stayed at the Medina because the location is perfect for King Streets bars and restaurants.

Check-in and customer service was fine. The apartment allocated to us was on the first floor, which was a bit disappointing view-wise, but was sufficiently insulated from road noise through double glazed windows. We had a bit of a water view and didn't spend much time in the apartment anyway. The apartment had a balcony, lounge, kitchen and dining, with separate bathroom and bedroom.

We requested, and were granted, two single beds (I love my sister, but I'm not going to share a bed with her!) which were not plush, but not uncomfortable either.

The pool and surrounds were nice for the location - you don't often get outdoor pools in the city. Towels were plentiful but the shower room adjoining the pool area could have done with some toiletries.

I paid $230, which was OK value for money. If breakfast had been chucked in, I would have felt better about the cost.

If you want to be close to Darling Harbour and King St wharf, I would recommend this hotel. For Circular Quay and shopping, I would recommend something located further toward the centre of the city.

Oh, and parking will cost you an additional $30 per night. I opted out of that one!

I liked this hotel. Apartment was a reasonable size, with comfy couches and bed. Also had a kitchen and full sized fridge, washer and dryer. View wasn't fantastic, over the Aquarium and a busy road, but still a nice location in a big city.
Reasonably close to Wynyard station for public transport options. Only a 10 minute walk to Circular Quay where ferries depart from.
Could do with a repaint and some mould on the shower screen, but very nice and comfortable on the whole.
