“Worth the money”
Reviewed September 30, 2013

1. The Reception Area - though at first the staffs were a little bit "sort of not so accommodating", or maybe they were shocked that a nationality coming from a developing country was able to afford the place. In the long run, the main staff, handed over the keys, and very well explained the additional purpose of it in using the elevator.
2. The Room - just like what I wanted, seeing the harbor side was relaxing. Clean, well-organized, highly-maintained. Basic furnitures were TV, iron, hair dryer, table for 2, mini-refrigerator, small modular kitchen.
3. The Bathroom - I am sophisticated with this one especially when it comes to cleanliness. Alas! It was very neat and tidy. Cheers!
4. Hotline Numbers - yep, every thing you need, just dial the corresponding numbers and someone will definitely answer your queries.

On our check-out, there was a pc with internet connection, and the staff will tolerate to have your early web check-in be printed, FREE :-).

Definitely recommend this place.

I loved this hotel, we had a fantastic view of the Opera House and Botanical Gardens. The area is very trendy with many convenient businesses all over. I loved the fact that the area is more like a very nice Sydney neighborhood, than a very touristic zone, and you can still walk to all the tourist attractions. Having a small kitchen and thus being able to have coffee and breakfast every morning is a big plus for us. The room is very comfortable, and clean. Thank you Macleay staff, we had a wonderful stay!

For the price this is the best value harbor bridge view in Sydney, great amenities with woolworths across the street and a multitude of shops and eateries within a short walk. Five minutes stroll to train station and nightlife.

Beds comfortable and staff friendly and very helpful.

Stayed at Macleay from 25 AUG 2013 to 2 SEPT 2013. Moved to Sydney for work and needed to find temporary accommodation.

I had never stayed in this hotel before nor in Potts Point area and I decided to try it out as it had a more affordable rate that was within my budget.

After staying for just over a week, I really had mixed feelings about this hotel.

Had almost 5 sleepless nights due to noisy street traffic below. I think the windows are not noise proof and the area can get busy day and night.

I ended up requesting for a room change and the staff was friendly enough to accommodate my request. They offered me another room facing the opposite end with a good view of the other waterfront.

Below are the good and bad points:

Good Points:
1. Nice view of the waterfront.

2. Good and comfortable bed and pillows.

3. Friendly receptionists especially Sam and Ursula.

Bad Points:
1. Can get noisy if room is facing the main street. No sound proofing and traffic can go on till late at night and early in the morning. If you are bothered by noise, don't ask for the Harbour Bridge view. The rooms facing the bay at the opposite side of the building are quieter and way better.

2. Internet connection on some rooms are terrible. You pay extra @ $15 per day for access to the Internet from your room but may get constant drop out every minute, prompting you to login over and over again and does get annoying.

3. Some rooms have very little water pressure from the shower.

4. Mediocre room service and cleaning on level 8.

5. Smaller TV, I was expecting a bigger one for the price of the room. Basic channels only.

6. Has a tiny kitchenette but no exhaust fan, I didn't cook during my entire stay but the cooking from next rooms can get into your room if you turn on the air conditioning.

7. Faulty light bulbs on the ceiling and broken lamps.

8.I think the price is higher for the quality of the rooms they have.

Overall, I have mixed reservations about this hotel. I think that for the price, you may get better hotels somewhere else.

The friendly receptionists make up for the lack of personality of this hotel and the waterfront view is good.

Will I come back again to this hotel ? Only if I don't have other choices...

Best of luck!

Room Tip: Rooms facing the bay waterfront (not the Harbour Bridge) are quieter.

Our travels took us back to Sydney again and yet again the service and standard of rooms was exceptional. It is always a pleasure to stay the staff are always friendly and go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable. The ease of check-in and check-out is great. We look forward to coming back again.

I keep thinking of the phrase "move on, nuthin to see here"... I stayed one night at the Macleay, on a higher floor, as requested. This is simply a good, solid place to spend a night if you are travelling or on business. The view over the harbour was impressive and relaxing. The room and bathroom were adequate. Not special but nothing to complain about either at the price.
The staff were pleasant and courteous. Although I didn't drive there I put on my reviewer hat to check out the basement car park for y'all and it was indeed substantial, secure and easy to navigate. I had a good nights sleep until woken by construction on buildings below in the early morning (but then I'm usually up by the crack of noon so maybe it wasn't that early).
Its not a character place or a romantic place but it is a good place to lay your head in a great location for a reasonable price.
Would I go back? Sure. Not for a romantic getaway though, there are plenty of places like QT, Medusa and Simpsons more suited to that.

Room Tip: High floor a must, east side quieter.

Excellent location, easy access to everywhere. Amazing views. Staff is very friendly. There are many many nice places nearby to have breakfast or lunch.
Rooms are small but ok. Cleaning is good.
We can recommend Macleay Hotel to families, couples and solo travellers.
