“Spoiling ourselves in Sydney”
Reviewed March 24, 2014

Two days before returning to the UK after a 2 month trip, we treated ourselves to 2 nights at the InterContinental Sydney in MacQuarie St. Reception, check-in, luggage to room all went like clockwork and our 18th floor room, booked via Expedia, was very luxe and had a good view of the Botanic Gardens and some of downtown Sydney skyline. If you don't get a harbour view room, the views of Sydney Harbour are outstanding from the roof-top pool room. Though the pool is small it is usually empty.
Breakfast in the Opera Cafe was very good (but cost £££'s) so on the second morning we had an equally good breakfast across the road at the Museum of Sydney cafe. It's just minutes to Circular Quay and the Opera House from this hotel and friendly concierge was full of information about what was on. Also met some friends for drinks in the Cortile Bar, it is beautiful and we ended up staying far longer than we intended.. service / drinks / nibbles all excellent.

Room Tip: Get a harbour view room if you can, the higher the floor the better the view

We stayed at this hotel on 9th March for a 6 night stay. The hotel is exceptional in every way. The restaurant "The Meat and Wine Company" is very good, both service and food quality. The concierge was probably the best I have ever experienced, very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. All staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Great location, just a short walk to the harbour.

Didn't stay here but a group of us went for High Tea and it was without a doubt the best High Tea we have ever had. One of our group has allergies and the staff provided an amazing variety for her.

A wonderful experience provided by some very dedicated staff.

Impressed!

If you're looking for posh and luxury, go elsewhere. This is a business hotel. While ideally located with all the amenities legally making it a 5 star hotel, I'll give it a 3- at least on my scale-oh and there is a Sotheby's mini sculpture museum in the lobby. For me service has as much value as amenities. I booked a club room and got upgraded to a superior king-city side. The benefit of replenished water daily only happened the first night. I never saw another complimentary bottle of water throughout my stay. Now one might say, why didn't you ask for it? Well, in a hotel of this calibre, putting water in the room should happen without me having to remind the staff, even in regular rooms. The daily newspaper was only delivered the first morning. The internet speed was good and reliable. The club lounge- the best thing going for it is the view. It is not as large as it looks in the pictures online. Yes you can see the harbor bridge and the opera house from it, but the terrace is small and feels tight. The club lounge wait staff- Grizzel and Alan are outstanding! They are the best in the lounge- proficient, professional and congenial. Hold on to them, at least while you can, because if you don't someone worthy of their talents will surely snatch them. The rooms are or at least my king superior room was small compared to other InterCon hotel rooms I've stayed at. It was also dated. It is time to move to separate shower and tubs if they're going to keep charging what you do for club rooms.

So the best thing the hotel has going for it, in my opinion-the location. I didn't eat at any of the restaurants due to my busy schedule so I can't comment about them. The food in the club lounge, especially the breakfast was fine. Not a lot of choices, but alright for continental. I've seen more at other Intercontinental hotels club lounges. This was not very good value for the money- notwithstanding how expensive Sydney is.

Am staying at the Harbour bridge view room at 1826 at the moment, still has 2 nights to go. View of the bridge is incomplete as it is obstructed by a tall building, so i can see part of the bridge and by definition, it is a harbour bridge view.
Room is small, decor is old and bathroom is small and very old. The hotel is more like a 4 star hotel.
I enquired at front desk for a better room, but got rejected. Am paying AUD$480 per night and it is not worth it.
Overall a poor experience and would never come back or recommend to anyone. Sheraton on the park is much better and cheaper.

We stayed here for 5 nights. My Husband was travelling for work and I merely tagged along with my 6 months old. Our check in was smooth. We had asked for a King size bed but were given twin sharing beds. We requested for a change and were told that Hotel was fully booked and we had to do with what we got. Room was spacious. The extra seating area was really good. The Instant service was "Instant" in true sense. Got a baby bath tub, extra bottles of water whenever I asked for it. Excellent wi-fi which was included in our package or else it's a bit expensive. The best part is the Location. Walking distance to Botanical Garden, Oprah, Circular Quay and all the major streets. The Concierge was wonderful. Suggested the best restaurants nearby which we thoroughly enjoyed. This Hotel is ideal for Meetings and hosting Parties. Billy at reception was extremely helpful and courteous. The Italian restaurant seems to be popular with Locals and the potato wedges are to die for !!! The only negative point will be few vegetarian options for breakfast. Apart from that everything else was up to the Standard.

This was one of the most outstanding hotels I have ever been in, lovely facilities, warm, friendly, helpful staff, excellent concierge service, centrally located to the Harbor, Opera House, The Rocks, Botanic Gardens and downtown. I would go back in a heartbeat if it wasn't a 16 hour flight from home!

Room Tip: We had one overlooking downtown and a peek at e harbour, perfect.
