“Well Managed, Excellent Staff & Good Value For Money”
Reviewed March 13, 2014

The facilities were all very good. Bed comfortable. Linen clean. Room & bathroom clean. Bar adjacent to reception well stocked & easily accessible. Staff excellent - reception staff member presented a birthday card & bottle of wine without any expectation of same. No complaints at all. Very good, well managed hotel property. Also good value for money & would definitely stay again.

Okay, stayed there during Mardi Gras in Sydney when all hotels raise their prices. But for the money paid and the value you get its over priced. I am a member and frequent visitor of Ibis/Accor hotels and have seen quite a few locations but this is rip off.
The rooms are small as it is normal for IBIS hotels, the cleaness of the room was still somewhat acceptable. The reception staff is very nice and helpful and they certainly cannot blamed for the cleanness and the pricing.
The only good point if you are willing to pay for it is the location right in the center of Sydney within walking distance to Central and Townhall Stations.
Honestly I would not stay in this Ibis again, there are similarly priced hotels during peak seasons which definitely offer better value for money.

Hi,

Thank you for your review.

It is disapointing to read your comments in regards to Housekeeping I have met with the team and share your review. We have focused on our team to ensure all rooms are to the Brand Standard.

Please always look on line a couple of months before an event and you will find Ibis has a number of great deals.

I hope you had a great Mardi Gras.

This hotel is well located with lots of restaurants and attractions nearby. Our room was small but clean and quiet and the bed was very comfortable. Unfortunately the bed is located right under the air conditioner so an otherwise good nights sleep was spoilt by having a cold breeze blowing over us all night. The lack of an opening window meant the aircon needed to stay on all night.
There is no on site parking but there is are 2 undercover parking stations just a short stroll away which are reasonably priced on weekends. Breakfast was a pleasant surprise; not cheap at $20 each but lots of hot food on offer and good coffee.

This hotel is in a good location from the point of view of access to popular spots - we walked to the Rocks and Bridge and to the Botanic Gardens; Darling Harbour is not far off. It does seem to be on the edge of a seedy area, with a by the hour hotel, adult bookshop and massage parlours nearby, but we also found some decent restaurants and experienced no unpleasantness.
We had a "de-luxe" room which was quiet and spacious, containing two double beds but strangely short on storage space. The decor was a little tired, one of the blinds fell down in the middle of the night, and the air-conditioning was not functioning when we first arrived. The two latter problems were promptly rectified by the friendly and efficient staff.
We didn't eat at the hotel, instead using some of the plentiful nearby cafes and restaurants.

Stayed here for one night during a short business trip in Sydney.

This is a tired looking hotel that is probably in need of a facelift. I stayed in their standard room, which is quite small in size; enough room to fit a bed and a small desk, no allocated room to place your luggage. The only time I spent in the room was actually sleeping, however I can't imagine having to spend any more time in there as it is quite claustrophobic.

Bath room is a bit old fashioned, but clean. Basic soap, shampoo and conditioner provided. Bed and pillows were okay, pillows especially were bordering on the soft and uncomfortable side.

This hotel is conveniently located about 15 minutes walk from Sydney's main shopping strip and about a 2 minute walk from a supermarket. It is also surrounded by a number of pubs and bars, which can be heard until late at night.

This hotel is okay if staying a night or two for business. But if you are staying for rest and relaxation, there are nicer hotels and better locations in Sydney.

We booked the hotel because of it's city location and it was a good price at the time when I booked it.
The size of the room wasn't too big but it's ok for just a night stay when attending a party, it is comfortable and clean. Staff were friendly and polite.

First, I would be writing a scathing and tremendously negative review were it not for Animesh, who singlehandedly redeemed the experience. Sorry this review goes on a bit.

POSITIVES: (1) Central location with easy access to the train (2 stops from Circular Quay), walking distance to Darling Harbour, Paddy's market, Chinatown, etc. (2) Animesh, friendly, courteous, and very helpful. He kindly helped remedy a number of issues below, including complimentary storage of our luggage for a couple of hours and relocating our room from the first floor, where there was no usable WiFi signal, to a higher floor where the WiFi signal was strong enough to be usable. He was wonderfully helpful in other ways, but these two things redeemed the entire hotel stay. (3) Reasonably clean rooms, and nice business center where there are computers with internet usage without charge.

NEGATIVES: (1) NO Free WiFi. Kayak page was misleading. There is a $20+ charge per day, so if you need WiFi on your device (I needed to VPN to work on specific software for instance). (2) GEORGE. He is one of the staff at the reception desk, and he was unfriendly, disinterested, and not at all hospitable--which is the name of the business, hospitality, right? We arrived on an early flight and asked if an early check-in might be possible, he recited the policy that check-in time is 2pm. When we asked if it's possible a room might be available any earlier than 2pm, he basically said he had no idea but we could wait. When we asked if we could leave our luggage at the hotel while we explored and return at check-in time, he told us we could pay $7 per storage locker!

We opted to drag our luggage to have coffee at a nearby cafe with WiFi to wait a bit. We later discovered that many guests are invited to leave their luggage in a closed side room/hallway complimentarily--pretty much everyone else at reception offers this to their guests. Someone who understands anything about hospitality would know that it's quite basic for a hotel to offer to store luggage complimentarily for a few hours for guests checking in and out from the hotel, and not to nickel and dime customers and tell them to pay $7 for a storage locker.

George was also unhelpful when we asked if they had any plug adaptors to borrow--he said no and claimed to put us on a "waiting list," which doesn't even exist--when I later asked another person at reception for the same thing, she looked through a drawer and offered one to me without referring to any imaginary list.

Overall, there are a few positives, but had George been the only one we encountered, I would have given a rating of 1 (or zero) out of 5 based on customer service. Animesh and his other coworkers provided good solid service, and Animesh in particular also went the extra mile in hospitality when he learned about how we were told to pay for storage lockers, etc, which lifted my review to 4 of 5, almost strictly in appreciation for their efforts to remedy and for central location.

Hi,

Thank you for taking the time to review the Hotel.
Please note we have free internet on level 2 in the business centre, using the Hotel PC’s.

I am sorry we were not able you give you an early check-in. Our check-in time is at 2.00pm.The staff will try to allocate or move rooms around to accommodate our guest; unfortunately we were unable to assist you.

I was disappointed to read your comments in regards to George as he often receives most favorable comments from our guests and return guests. I have spoken to him and he is also disappointed to read your comments.

We do hope you will return and thank you for your review, if I can further assist you please let me know.
