“Private Inner-City Apartment”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 23, 2013

Let's face it - the location and SIZE of room was fantastic. It's like your own private inner-city apartment. We stayed the night of and after our wedding... The Bulgari products were wonderful, the bed incredibly comfy and there were a few little features that made it (an ipod dock that played all over the apartment). However, it's missing the personal touches that make a boutique hotel a boutique hotel! For the amount of money we paid per night (for the best penthouse suite) plus the occasion, there was no complimentary bottle of bubbles or even a congratulatory note (yet the staff were well aware). I even had to pay for a bouquet of flowers to brighten up the room for my wife! And, the bath spewed out brown water on two separate occasions... It was great, but there were a few flaws

Room Tip: We were in the Penthouse with the dressing room downstairs. The room itself was enormous and very c...

If you wanna feel like you belong to an exclusive, private club, this is the place to go. The "hidden" location, the small number of rooms, and the darkly sumptuous interior all contribute to this. But it is not at all stuffy - the reception is very welcoming, warm, and helpful e.g. if you'd like to book a restaurant (especially any in the Merivale group). Although this hotel has been there for a while (I first came here many years ago, when they were still selling Hemmesphere CD's), it has done a good job of keeping up with the times. Now they provide iPads in the rooms, loaded with songs, information, and games. And free wi-fi!

The room itself is very nice, with timber beams on the ceiling, very comfortable bed, and Bulgari toiletries. One downside is that the main lighting control is only at the entrance (the one I could find, at least), and it is a bit far from the bed. Facility-wise, there's only a (very) small gym. People who stay here burn their calories by going to one of the Ivy clubs, about half a block up George St, to which the hotel guests have VIP access (except if there's a private event). But if adding calories is more your thing, the hotel is also surrounded by high-quality restaurants and bars, including the three-hatted Est and the freshly trendy Mr Wong. It's wonderful to dine at one of those places and just walk a few steps back to your room!

Room Tip: Establishment Rooms are spacious, and often there are good offers (less than $300)

The Establishment is a very centrally located hotel. I think its one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in. Although I do have a few gripes.

1. The entrance of the hotel is in a back-lane. For those unfamiliar with the layout of the area, it isn't easy to find. The turning in is tight and passes by the refuse disposal area of the restaurant, so you get a good whiff of refuse.

2. The lights in the hotel room can be a little dim in some rooms.

Other than this, my stay here was fantastic. Why?

1. The hotel is strategically located in central area. Food, attraction, arts, sight-seeing, transportation... effectively everything is easily accessible.

2. Staff. All the staff are friendly, helpful, attentive, service-oriented. You really do feel at home from the moment you step in. Staff really go out of their way to help you. 1st class service quality.

3. The hotel itself is very tastefully done up. Very comfortable and it gives you the feeling you can just laze that 30 minutes more before starting your day. Some work could be scheduled to maintain and upkeep some aspects and fittings of the room, but that's a very minor point.

Basically, this is one of the best hotels I've stayed in. When I'm next in Sydney, I know I'd come back here.

Room Tip: Take a room on level 3 and above if you're easily distracted by noise. The hotel used to be a wa...

This hotel is a great little boutique place hidden down a lane way. The staff are wonderful and are full of suggestions and advice for everything you might need.
Try mr wongs next door for a delicious meal too.
The room I stayed in was amazing, I felt like I was on holiday rather than in Sydney for work and the little special touches in this hotel are fantastic. Free wifi, luxurious bathrooms and the enormous cookies left on my pillow everyday were a treat.
Would def stay here again!

Close to all Sydney majorattractions like the opera house and shopping in pitt street mall. great hideaway location away from the traffic but still close to the buzz of the city. excellent door staff and reception. very helpful. room was impecable. wonderful experience. well appointed and plush finishes. perfect for the weekend getaway or just one night. room service was tasty and on time. large bathroom with all the amenities you would need. highly recommend staying here. worth every cent.

Room Tip: higher floors are more quiet.

Used to live in Sydney and drink at the Establishment, so when the opportunity arose to stay here I took it.

It's not cheap; but given current rates coming from the UK nowhere is in Sydney. The location is great, the rooms were very comfortable, and the staff friendly and helpful. You won't get the gym facilities or breakfast buffets of a big chain hotel, but on a short business trip it's good sometimes to try something different. And for some reason very satisfying to put your bar bill 'on the room'.

We stayed at Establishment Hotel for 2 nights on our wedding night and the night after. I have to say everything was absolutely amazing and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

The hotel is hidden away from the main streets and has such a beautiful fit out, from reception to the room. What is also a good point about the location is it is a part of Establishment which means you have bars & restaurants in the same building. If you do stay I would recommend dinner at Sushi E (their Japanese inspired restaurant) followed by cocktails in Hemmesphere (their cocktail/lounge bar) both were delicious! Then it's just a small walk back to the room.

The room was absolutely breathtaking, we stayed in the Duplex Penthouse. So much space with all the mod cons including a Bose system, iPad which lets you flick through the in-room dining menus and all the restaurants/bars linked to the company (Merivale), also select the music to play through the Bose system. They have thought of everything you could possibly want, and if you needed anything from front desk they were very helpful & friendly. The bathroom was also just as spectacular with the bath situated in the middle of the room. What was surprising is there is a 'hidden' bathroom as soon as you walk into the room (before going up the stairs to the room). It looks like a wall and if you didn't know it was there you would swear there was nothing there. That adds a bit of fun to the room!

Being newly married the morning after the wedding we decided to have breakfast room service which was delicious (see photo). Special mention to Richard (hotel manager) fAor arranging this for us and also to Danielle for arranging a late check out for us. Their service was spot on and there were no flaws to talk about at all.

They have definitely earned their 5 star rating

Room Tip: The Delux Penthouse is amazing
