Shangri-La Hotel Sydney

A magnificent hotel with rooms over looking the Sydney Harbour. We had a wonderful view of the Opera House and the Bridge in daylight and in moonlight with the lights of the surrounding city shining. The rooms are very large and everything is there for the traveller. The rooms are light and airy with large windows. The bathroom is excellent and roomy with both bath tub and shower cubicle. I cannot fault the service as staff are always attentive but not obtrusive, the breakfast room and choices are also excellent. A steep walk from the harbour to the hotel is the only downside but at least it is a short walk.

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the Opera House although I am told all rooms have a interesting view.

Fine but not up to the standard of other Shangri La's I've stayed at and certainly falling short relative to 5 stars in Asia. For example,
1. Tried to take a small breakfast from the breakfast room to a conference I was attending in the hotel (was running late) and was not allowed to do so. I found this lack of flexibility really absurd. I've taken food items out of hotel breakfast rooms in other hotels (for example, to the room) with no difficulty. Rigid pointless rules are expected in cheap hotels but unacceptable in high end hotels.
2. Breakfast itself was ok but not great, compared for example to Mandarin Oriental Singapore where I stayed the previous week
3. The lift is like the London tube for overcrowding and waiting.

Use this hotel frequently for business trips. Rooms are always clean and fresh and room service is excellent. It is in an excellent location for exploring the Rocks.Even the Darling Harbour view rooms have a reasonable view.

Room Tip: Try for a room facing the harbour - views are spectacular.

We stayed here twice in a 7 day period – first time for 2 nights and the second for 1 night. We had stayed here before, many years ago so we knew the hotel reasonably well. One of my pet peeves occurred straight from the 19 hour flight – “your room isn’t ready” – I mean, really?? You are SO booked that you don’t have ANY rooms free?? This never puts me in a good frame of mind, especially when I’m tired from travel. However, once we did get our room, it was what you’d expect from a Shangri La resort. Clean, ‘shiny’ (new, well-appointed and well maintained) and the view was just what we’d ordered. I can’t really comment on the restaurants or bars, as we didn’t get to them. I will say that the view from the Blu bar on 36 is well worth a visit – but don’t wander in wearing shorts and flip flops – this place seems to be the kind of place where folks get dressed up. For our second visit we were lucky enough to get an upgrade to a suite (still not sure why, but hey…) and that was absolutely gorgeous, even if we only managed to enjoy it for one night. All in all, a great location, even if it is a bit of a steep walk from the harbor; and a great place to stay for all Sydney attractions.

Lucky enough to stay in the Royal Suite at the Shangri-La in Sydney. What can i say? I found a piece of heaven. The room was luxurious. The view, second to none. The staff and service - superb! By far, my favourite hotel in Sydney.

My mother and I stayed four nights at the Shangri la for a special girls only trip in February. From the moment we stepped into the hotel to the moment we left four nights later, the service and experience was nothing short of excellent.

Helpful and genuinely friendly staff really make this hotel. We were greeted with a warm smile from every single staff member we encountered, and service was always prompt and professional.

We stayed in a Horizon Club Opera City View room, with two queen sized beds. The beds and pillows were super comfortable.

The room was extremely clean and housekeeping were efficient. The hotel was fully booked for some of our stay and one day we arrived back in the early afternoon to find our room had not been serviced. A quick call was all that was needed, and after 30 mins in the Club Lounge, our room was back up to it's perfect standard.

The Club Lounge was wonderful and well worth the extra money. We chose to eat breakfast in the restaurant downstairs due to a better variety and eggs cooked to order. Afternoon tea in the lounge was scones, sandwiches and cakes, and softdrinks and tea and coffee were included. There was no need to find high tea anywhere as everything was covered here in the club lounge. Canapes and drinks were lovely in the evening too and it was so nice to watch the river traffic come and go on the harbour while sipping a drink or two. Jerry is an absolute gem in the club lounge! He went over and above to ensure that we were always happy and had everything that we needed. He really made the whole experience that little bit more special.

Overall, a fabulous stay at a wonderful hotel. Everything you would expect from a hotel of this standard. Would definately recommend this hotel to others.

It is worth noting that this hotel is on the top of a very steep hill, and those with mobility issues might find in very difficult to walk up the steps/hill.

Room Tip: For for an Opera/Harbour view room. Views are simply stunning both by day and night.

After several days at the InterContinental my customer recommended this hotel, so on my return to Sydnry before leaving I managed to get a room at this hotel.

The rooms that have a seating area seem to be on the bottom of the hotel with no views while the smaller rooms seem to be on the upper floors. And the hotel is full every night per the front desk.

Overall the hotel is great and worth the money for the area, but be aware that somd rooms face other buildings meaning the view is lost. Will see about staying here my next visit to Sydney
