Did 3 nights here, hotel very well appointed and well run. Staff efficient and friendly. In The Rocks area which is great, lots of lovely restaurants around. Room was large and airy. My husband inadvertently knocked a wall lamp off the wall and the staff actually apologised to him. Would definintely stay here again.

Whether on holiday or business this is the hotel to stay whilst in Sydney. Perfect location, reception staff extremely professional, bell staff deliver luggage at a rapid speed, housekeeping spotless. The room oh my the room!!! If you do decide to stay ensure you have a bridge and opera house view on a high floor, believe me the up grade is worth it. When you enter the room the curtains are closed and the view for the first time takes your breath away. Extremely comfortable bed, ample toiletries, coffee & tea making facilities and inclusive internet access. Cannot comment on bar or restaurant as we did not use them. I would highly recommend this hotel and have told my agent to advise any of her clients going to Sydney to book the SL with a bridge & opera house view.

Another wonderful stay in the Shangri la Sydney. Out of this world views on perfect autumn days. Few little niggles with the rooms this time; shower ranges from scalding to cold, toilet slow to flush! Otherwise superb a great feeling amongst the staff! Cafe Mix excellent for dinner and breakfast. Can recommend this hotel highly!

I only was able to stay here for one night due my lay over. Good location with fine dining & bars places as well as small cozy bars in the area. It also right next to the entrance to the harbour bridge.

The Hotel is beatiful with excellent service. I had nice harbour view-room, confortable bed, beautiful bathroom. I do highly recommend.

We arrived in Sydney on 15 January via the Celebrity Cruise Ship Solstice as part of our 20th Anniversary Celebration. After reading some of the many reviews for hotels in Sydney on Tripadvisor we decided on the Shangri-La hotel.

The ship was docked at Circular Quay Sydney for a full day/night before we disembarked the ship. We could clearly see the hotel from the ship. Although we had read about the steep climb up the hill from Circular Quay we thought the hotel did not look that far away. We did not take into account having to lug our baggage up the hill and having to deal with the hottest weather Sydney had had since 1939. So we arrived at the 5* hotel dripping wet with shirts soaked to the skin. Not the best way to arrive at a nice hotel.

We had booked our room via the hotels website. I had taken the recommendation of many reviewers who said to book a Premier Grand Harbour View Room as it had the best ever view of Sydney with a 180-degree view of Sydney Harbour and Opera House. Cost AUD$555.00 per night. We would stay 4 nights.

As we checked in we were told we had been upgraded to a Horizon Club Room. We have never had an upgrade anywhere before so were very pleased. But when I asked if the room had those wonderful views, we were told it did not have. So I asked if we could keep our original room and be able to have access the Horizon Club privileges. The receptionist went away to check and came back to say they had upgraded us one more time so we would have the Horizon Club Premier Grand Harbour View Room. Which meant we were on a higher floor with a much larger room.

When we got to into the hotel room (room 3013) the views were spectacular, huge windows allowed us to see not only the Opera House and harbour, but all the way to Sydney Heads. Watching the ferries go to and fro with all the other harbour traffic meant it was an ever-changing vista.

The bed was huge and very comfortable; having the window seating was wonderful to watch the panorama below. A big plus is FREE INTERNET. No hotel should be charging for internet use these days.

A fruit basket was supplied with seedless grapes and a juicy mango along with other fresh fruit. The bed turn down service was a bit of a let down as they came to service the room way too early and they did not leave chocolates but left cards with quotes from the book "Lost Horizon".

The marble bathroom with a good sized bath is a treat I enjoy when away, as we do not have a bathtub at home. Lovely L’Occitane soaps and shampoos only intensified the experience.

The indoor pool was a god send as Sydney was in the grip of the hottest weather since 1939 and temperatures reached a record breaking 45.8 degree. We went on a wine tour to the Hunter Valley and temps got to 50 degree according to our iphone.

Being part of the Horizon Club Rooms we were able to go to the Horizon Club for Breakfast, afternoon tea, get bottled water, soda’s, then cocktails and canapés all included in the tariff. Breakfast was at a relaxed time and was set out as a small buffet with bacon, eggs, cereals, etc plus some items that Asian and European travelers would enjoy. The evening cocktail canapé time was a bit of a mad crush of fellow guests. As we were on the same floor as the Horizon Club we just took a couple of small plates with a selection of canapés to our room and had a Vodka Tonic or two relaxing in the comfort of our wonderful room admiring the view.

We had a wonderful stay at the Shangri-La Hotel, the staff were very friendly. Yes you do pay good money to stay there but to be able to experience such a magnificent hotel is something we will remember for a long time.
Some people will say you only sleep in your hotel room so why pay so much, but why not enjoy the moment, relax and savour the luxury we deserve so much when on holiday.

Room Tip: Premier Grand Harbour View Rooms (they are corner rooms) are fab, expensive but fab,but Horizon Club...

We stayed here on points accumulated from various Asian Shangri La hotels for our first night, then a Horizon Club room the remaining nights.
The first room, Executive Grand Harbour View - was beautiful. Padded window seats, the most comfy bed ever. View of the harbour is the best in Sydney.
We were upgraded to a suite for our remaining nights, which was amazing, although the suite was a little tired. Again, the most amazing beds ever.
Excellent location for exploring Sydney.
On the down side: Paying the extra for the Horizon Club...next time I wouldn't bother at this particular hotel. The food and beverage offering is pretty average. The concierge staff at this hotel is not great- this is the second time there I have found them a bit clueless and not welcoming. The new towels in the rooms had hair on them and the bathrooms weren't clean; there was no pool attendant as "he wasn't there today" so we had to call around the hotel for someone to help us find things; the breakfast is ok, not like other Shangri La hotels.
But really, overall a pretty good hotel! I stay regularly at Intercontinental as well and their service is a just a cut above the Shangri La.

Room Tip: if you can get a Harbour view, do it, it's worth the money!

This hotel is perfectly located if you're thinking of walking the Sydney harbour bridge, the bridge climb club is a short walk and matter of minutes away. The hotel itself is as you would expect for the Shangri-La chain, however it has a disappointing entrance and not easy to find. If your thinking of taking the train from the airport to get to this hotel may I suggest you get off at Maynard station, hang a left as you exist the station and follow the road along, as you reach the toll road over the bridge on your left cross over the road and continue onward, the Shangri-La will be in front of you on your right, the toll road will be high up on your left. The view we had was spectacular overlooking the Opera house and the circular quay. The room was suitable large enough with a big window with seating enabling you too relax whilst taking in the view. It had a large bathroom, big super king bed, mini-bar and coffee/tea making facility. There are many restaurants, shops etc within walking distance, but the return trip is either up many stairs or steep hills to the lobby.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the harbour - the view is breathtaking!
