We stayed in this hotel in March 2013 for 7 nights. In a superior room. The room was on the 8th floor and looked out over the Sydney harbour. Just to note for those with lesser mobility - the hotel is uphill from Circular quay, it is a 5-10 min walk to the quay so you might not really want to book transport but it may be too much of a uphill struggle for some. We arrived early before the official check in time after a long haul flight, and even though I had requested a room on a high floor we were so tired we took the only room available which was on the low 8th floor in our room category. The views were good over looking the end of the harbour bridge, however a higher floor would have given us better views over more of the harbour and beyond. The room was large and spacious, and very clean, except for the outside windows. I just wish hotels would consider supplying two comfy chairs in the room especially when the room is large enough, so one person doesn't have to sit on the bed to relax, especially when the room is for two people. After our stay in this hotel we would consider next time staying in Darling harbour which is the next harbour along, mainly for the fact there is much more to see and do, restaurants, bars and entertainments on the hotel door steps, I would consider Darling to be a more relaxing, holiday location that circular quay, however saying that the Shangri - La is more or less midway between the two harbours. There wasn't anything we didn't like about this hotel.
A tip for a sight seeing trip - consider buying a multi ticket which allows travel on ferries, buses, trains within the immediate Sydney area for $44 AUS each person for seven days, we used this everyday and really enjoyed the freedom it gave us, and the savings we must have made. We even nipped to Manly on the ferry for the second time in the week, we had a few hours to spare one afternoon just to have a coffee, then returned again.
Overall this hotel is very nice, and the staff are friendly, polite and helpful.
