“Excellent property, excellent service.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2012

This property offers an excellent standard of refined service quality.

I travel considerably for work and stay at many fine hotels across the country.

By far, the Shangri-la have the best trained staff in 5-star service.

Their rooms are awesome, large, beautiful sweeping views of the harbour.

Cannot fault any of my stay here! Will be back.

Not a bad location but a bit of a climb from the quay area unless you are fairly mobile. Also a bit far from the main shops.
View is great
The people are sensational.
Rooms OK but a bit tired as is the entry and foyer.
Had to ask for coat hangers and an information compendium as they were not in the room and the info via the TV was hopeless.
The lifts operating system is just terrible and they are hot.
Check in is slow but friendly.
No sheet for bed so the only thing to sleep under is a quilt. Too hot!
Only 1 comfortable chair in the room.
No freezer in room fridge for ice. Very inconvenient.
No restaurant open all day.
Would go somewhere else next time.

I have now stayed at the Shangri-la in Sydney over 60 times, so much I'm now at Diamond Status and I stay here because of the quality of the hotel and the particularly the customer service. If you have access to the Club Lounge (Horizon Club) you will be welcomed by the hotels best staff and treated to a view Sydney harbour that is one of the best going around. It certainly a great view while having breakfast.

This is a true 5 star hotel and I will continue to go back.

After a stressful taxi journey from the airport, we were welcomed by Charlie at the door who immediately got us laughing. We were then welcomed by another member of staff who chatted to us as we waited to check in. The room was fantastic, 26th floor facing the harbour bridge and opera house. Couldn't have asked for better. The bed was comfortable.

Apart from the views, and helpful staff, the standout would have had to have been the cocktails on the 36th floor. The only disappointment was the lack of seats and long wait list for the lounge. My partner was recovering from a knee operation, so we couldn't stay standing for that long. (Some high stools would have helped maybe?)

All in all, we would recommend a stay here, but make sure you get a harbour view room, worth the extra cash.

Room Tip: Go for a harbour view - worth the extra cash

This hotel is ok. The rooms particularly bathrooms are a bit tired; the service was ok; the concierge directed me to two internal restaurants for an early dinner, both of which were not serving food; he had no idea what was open; be aware that the hotel is up a steep hill if you are walking from the train station. Would not rush back, especially after staying in shangri la hotels in Asia which are amazing, and put the Australian ones to shame.

Stayed here for a few nights in August. Location is fantastic and once we upgraded ourselves to a room on the 26th floor we couldn't fault the view looking out - bridge to the left; oprah house to the right. Huge room and comfortable bed.

However, we originally booked Oprah City and were left disappointed as we walked in. All you can see is the Four Seasons which is a '60s style concrete building. Not quite the 'city view' we hoped for. More 'city' than 'oprah' view from the window.

Breakfast was nice. Chef on hand to do eggs and there was never a queue.

Staff also very friendly.

If you want location can't fault it but was hoping for something more from a Shangri La.

The Shangri - La Hotel was the destination for my wifes birthday and the service and friendly staff made the start of our celebration a great start. It was great to see the staff look like they were enjoying their jobs , respectfully and accommodating. Our views of Sydney Harbour from our room were sensational. We had access to the Horizon Club Lounge which included continental breakfast, evening drinks and canapés served between 6-8pm.
It was such a good experience and the standard of our room was excellent.
Made my wifes birthday a good and memorable experience. Thanks to all the staff!!!!
